Super Bowl XLII headlines

Discussion in 'Journalism topics only' started by Left_Coast, Feb 3, 2008.

  1. We had "One Giant loss," plus two sidebars. One of them had a two-deck headlines of "Manning up once again" to play off our "Manning up" headline from last year.

I put up "Past Perfect" as a cover hed, but it didn't take. It was pretty tense for a while.

We used One Giant upset ... and I basically re-wrote the AP lead and sprinkled in some other quotes and descriptions from other FAP wire stories.

I didn't read this until today. I would have felt like I'd stolen something.

    Went with:

MVP Manning leads Giants to upset victory

Would have been fun to come up with a clever headline with this concept.

    Anyone care to try?

I'm no big fan of Giant Upset, but it's better than forcing an esoteric hed for the sake of being original. Readers don't give a shit if the Piss River Register 200 miles away used the same hed. I would like to have come up with something better for our main front, but nothing was sticking.

We did use New York Minute on the sports front, which isn't quite as obvious.
