Simon, thanks for the update. One thing about the list stands out. The 1973 Dolphins rate near the top, the '72 Dolphins down towards the middle, and the '71 Dolphins near the bottom.
They're the same freakin' team! All personnel, at least all key personnel, exactly the same. This indicates, I think, that the general tendency to rate "great" teams by what they accomplish over a period of seasons rather than one season alone is a wise one.

It is the job of ALL of us to observe, as we go along . . .

But just for openers, re Punchy:

    . . . etc., etc.

Lame, attempted ESPN personality-reconstruction of such thugs doesn't count.

As I suspected. Suppositions based on no personal interaction.
I would have thought journalists would be above that, but I guess I should know better.
This board -- this thread -- keeps proving me wrong about that.

    Smith. My Bad.

I have always wanted to call him Jake Scott. Don't ask me why.

    Not the same team.

    Surprising statement from you.

In personnel, sure. In seasoning, no f-ing way.

Were the 1986-87 Pistons as good as the 1987-88 team?

Were the 2007 Cardinals as good as the 2008 Cardinals?

The 1990 Braves compared with the 1991 team?

Jake Scott also dropped a ball in a SB, but they won and he caught two others.... so he was the MVP.

Also, Jackie Smith is arguably the greatest SB goat ever, that play replayed over and over again.... yet no one knows who Asante Samuel or Lewis Billups are.

Odd the way that stuff works.

Simon, your response was implicit in my post. Teams are organic. They grow, bloom, wither, and die. That's why rating teams over their entirety rather than as one-year entities is best.

This is the part that makes him sound like a hell of a guy.

"The couple had argued and Tibbott locked herself in the bedroom, the affidavit stated. She was attempting to call 911, when Harrison broke through the door, took her phone, slapped her in the face and knocked off her glasses. Police said she had red marks on her left cheek. Tibbott told police she was afraid of Harrison, the affidavit said."

He must be a good guy, he wears a Steeler jersey, Tebow man, get some perspective.

Agree to disagree... whale's vagina.... man punted Baxter.

It's easier and tidier to just say that 1970s Steelers dynasty, but the fact is that 1974 team was far different than the 1979 team.
