Point freely granted. Teams change. The Steelers altered styles to accomodate their Hall of Fame wideouts. Same thing with the Packers of the 60s. When Hornung and Taylor wore down, they became a passing team. Obviously, the 49ers before and after Jerry Rice are different animals.
But not that different. History, at least popular history, sees these teams as single entities. I think, on balance, popular history is right to do so.

    Ray Lewis begs to differ.

The Steelers did not just change for Swann and Stallworth. The NFL changed the rules to open up the passing game and Chuck Noll was smart enough to adapt. Terry Bradshaw matured, but he was also finally in an offense that took full advantage of his talents.

For those who might care, NFL Network is showing the entire broadcast starting at 8:30 p.m., including the entire halftime show.

Is there no Pro Bowl thread here?

    Wait, that was today?

I watched more replays of the playoffs on NFL Network than I did of the Pro Bowl.

That reminds me of something that struck me watching a bit of the Super Bowl XLIII replay. In addition to the receptions that stood, Santonio Holmes had two fairly long receptions called back on holding penalties, including the safety.

The safety play was when I told my wife he deserved MVP, were they to win.
He'd been coming thru all day, just like Breaston did for Arizona.

There's a full reply at 12:30 and encores Thursday and Friday -- if my cable's programming guide is correct

True, but better, because he wasn't getting the No. 3 receiver treatment.

Watched a little of the Pro Bowl. Sad that this is the last year it's going to be in Hawaii. I'll miss the coaches in Hawaiian shirts. There was an interesting column on Real Clear Sports indicating a lot of the players aren't looking forward to playing a meaningless exhibition the week before the Super Bowl in Miami, Dallas or Indianapolis in late January. Expect more players to opt out.
Can't believe they really charged $175 for club seats in Honolulu.

So, slapping your girlfriend around is OK as long as you take anger management courses? Really?
