So then let's get the state out of marriage entirely. But now that some states are contemplating this, I'm sure you'll ridicule them as bigots.

I don't have nearly enough information. How long have they been married? What was their attitude when they went into the marriage? Did their intimacy just drift away over time? I have little moral indignation over people STAYING MARRIED if things just slowly change over time. I would, however, have a moral objection to this couple GETTING MARRIED if both were single and this was the way they were planning on living their lives.

We will ridicule them as hopelessly stupid -- as will, eventually, their own residents.

As long as government and other benefits are tied to marriage status, the government will regulate marriage.

Can't say about the New Testament ones, but the OT quotes don't mean what they imply they mean. It helps to read more than one sentence at a time.

Attitudes about sex have changed dramatically enough that I'm willing to say I have no idea what a person aged 22-25 believes, nor will I ever.

I'm of a mind with you in terms of my personal outlook. But our way isn't the way anymore. We're saying now that marriage is the crossover line into total fidelity. But really, way back when, were there a lot of "friends with benefits" or loving but non-monogamous pre-marital relationships at that time? That just wasn't a thing in my era.

I don't get it, I don't think I ever will, but it's where the world has gone.

I believe a key tenet of marriage or any serious relationship is monogamy. I never thought of this as being a particularly bold stance.

And if you were married, and being unfaithful you should recognize what your marriage really is, roommates with tax benefits and legal protections.

What about married couples who participate in orgies and the like? They're sharing that at least. It's like sex is their mutual hobby.

I guess we now have to change the divorce laws since adultery being legal bounds for divorce would bother the gay community. Can't wait for the SCOTUS ruling on that.

I think all this hand wringing over what constitues a real marriage is kind of funny considering the spouse is usually the primary suspect when one of them is murdered.

How many special occasions such as anniversaries of first date, Christmas, etc. will be ruined because one partner expected the other to propose and the latter didn't?
