There are two remedies for contempt. Jail or fines. The ACLU asked for fines, mostly because they did not want her to become a martyr. The judge said he was concerned that fines would not be effective. He was particularly concerned that third parties would pay the fines on her behalf.

Yep. Same thoughts I had leading up to this. The judge is Jim Bunning's kid, too, so I assume he has similarly conservative viewpoints. He's handled this pretty well.

There is nothing sadder in online "Gotcha!" than posting a false meme. There is something sad when the poster has no one to come home to, so resorts to memes in some vain attempt at having a fulfilling life..

But you know she's a Democrat, right?! She is not supposed to have her own opinions on anything that doesn't mesh with the lefty agenda!

Better tell the LA Times to correct their story.

She did it again: Kentucky clerk refuses marriage license to gay couple

Better tell the NY Times, too.

There's no need for the LA Times or NY Times to correct their stories. If you follow your own links you'll notice that the couples in those photos are not the couple in the photo on your meme.

The couple in the photo on your meme - the ones whose efforts have attracted most of the media attention - are David Moore and David Ermold, of Rowan County, Kentucky. The picture from your meme was taken when she refused to issue a license on Tuesday.

The couple from Ohio is Robbie Blankenship and Jesse Cruz. The stories you linked to were from Wednesday.

I've said it before, I'll say it again:

Heterosexuals are killing the institution of marriage, not gay people. More and more men and women in every generation of Americans reject marriage and choose other dating, mating and living arrangements.

But gay people make a better scapegoat/get-out-the-Tea-Party-vote target. So Kentucky county clerks and Fox News loving bakery owners, you have the stage ...

Get the state and feds out of the marriage business. No more extra benefits, no nothing. If you want to get married, go ahead and have a ceremony of your choosing, but you're not getting a license or any advantages from the state.

Preach on! Removing all traces of marriage from the state will totally help society. No negative effects at all!!!!! Let me take a wild guess that you're single, or you're married and don't have kids.
