These spoiler sites are like perfect in one thread making the rounds of who goes when.

Black Russell in Season 19 comes to mind, too.

Yeah, the look in his eyes was scary. His eyes were open, but he wasn't there at all.

You don't think that was played up for TV? I think if someone was like damn near dead, the reactions would be much, much more dramatic. I'm not even sure if it was that bad, we'd see it. Just sayin'.

On the reunion show he said he didn't remember anything and didn't even know what happened until he saw the episode. Highly doubt it was faked. Dramatic editing, perhaps, but no embellishment of the severity of his condition. They're much more likely to ham up the non-injuries or lighter injuries.

Perhaps, but you take that chance with virtually any physically challenging event. How many people die a year in marathons? I'm guessing they give these people pretty thorough physicals before they cast them. Doesn't mean they might not croak during the game but with all the medical people around, how likely is that? Like somebody else said on this thread, Big Tom said the contestants ask to see "medical" virtually every day to get water and Advil. I'd think somebody is much more likely to die by getting hit with lightning while sitting in a poor shelter during a storm or some other freak incident like that.

The sad truth is that, at some point, someone is going to get seriously hurt and/or die filming one of these shows. Might not be Survivor, might not be TAR, but someone, somewhere will one day have this happen and the responses will range from "OMG, let's cancel all reality TV" to "Oh, I hoped they caught it on film".

Guy died, yes, but not because of the show.

Stone-cold certainty: Congress will spend billions for an investigation into reality TV.

Only if some interest group asks it to. Most of the FCC complaints about indecency come not from individual motivated citizens but a handful of right-wing interest groups.

The guy who fell into the fire in Season 2 was the scariest moment in the show's history in my opinion. He was also probably one of the favorites at the time, which added to the drama.
