The suspected cases in Connecticut are from people who traveled to Cancun.

And the I heard Tamiflu while it may work in the short term, will eventually force the strain to mutate and get stronger.

    BYH,

I can't answer the philosophic questions about why science can't beat a virus like HIV. Some of the answers are political; countries not investing in public health and education to mitigate the spread of the disease.

Immunization for influenza is a statistics game, as reseachers predict what strain of virus might be most likely to infect the country. The predictions occur a year in advance allowing vaccines to be made. However, even with immunizations, the CDC estimates that 36,000 people die each year from influenza complications.

Cancer is slowly being beaten but it is more than just one disease and each takes time and effort to be able to kill the cancer cells and none of teh normal cells that make up the body. That is the challenge so far.

As for monies spent on cosmetics, performance enhancing drugs and lifestyle medications, I beleive that the marketplace drives that equation.

    Doc, thanks.

I think I have read or heard that many of the drugs we use today were found when chemists were looking for something else.

For example, Viagra was found looking for help in angina and high blood pressure.

Janet Napoltano reports all U.S pork is "safe". Great news I had stopped eating bacon and sausage and pepper subs a few years ago to cut back on fat in my diet. I am going out today to celebrate this new information with a sausage and pepper for lunch.

You can get the sweats and that can look like you have a fever.

Especially to people who go batshit insane every time somebody sneezes now.
