Take care of yourself

So the Centrum or Men's One-A-Day are just as good as the expensive ones at Whole Foods or GNC? I've read stuff by Dr. Andrew Weil off and on and I know he recommends you get a certain amount of this and that vitamin or herb etc. which got me wondering if the cheapo vitamin at the drug store was just as good as the more expensive ones.

Which description? The "devilishly handsome with cute dimples" one?

For what it's worth, and it could be a complete coincidence, I have gotten sick much, much less since I started taking a one-a-day for men like two years ago.

Did that vitamin also help you come up with the best user name on the board?

A college buddy's dance move turned torn groin can take the credit for that one.

That's just wrong. Man, I always saw your name and laughed. Now I am going to cringe each time.

In the interest of accuracy, it was merely a badly pulled groin, I think. Not Nomar-esque.

I used to take Centrum w/ Iron, but have recently started taking One-A-Day "All Day Energy" (green label) and I can tell a difference.

In the past 4 months I joined a gym and, along with running 2-3 times a week, this is the best shape I have ever been in. I have not gotten sick once this entire winter (knock on wood). It's to the point now where if I don't do something every day (lift weights, run, cycle) I feel weird. Get past those first 2 months and you turn it into a habit. That's huge.

As far as eating, the best thing I did was substitute my mid-morning snack of a big, fatty muffin to a non-fat muffin ($2.50 for 6 at Wal-Mart) and my afternoon candy bar for a banana, yogurt or pretzels. Never, never get something from a snack machine! Those were put on this earth by the devil. I'm never hungry and I've cut down on my junk food 75% by doing just that. If I indulge myself, it's ONE cookie or one small piece of chocolate.

Make it a point to do something for 30 minutes a day (run, bike, weights, walk, whatever) and you'll see a big difference.

Rico, just check the outside of the label. It will tell you what percentage of each vitamin you're getting. If it's comparable, go for the Centrum/One-a-Day. Like I said, it works for me. I work out a minimum six days a week and take vitamins and haven't been sick in a long time <knocking on wood>

I disagree with Flying Headbutt on one thing, however. You gotta have cardio, especially first off as you're building a routine and especially if you're wanting to drop some weight. He's absolutely correct that muscle burns fat and you have to do weights, but I think you should get into a cardio routine first. You need to burn those calories and get into a routine that includes cardio 3-5 times per week. As soon as you get in a rhythm with that, throw in the weights and it will really start working for you.
