I could have, probably, accguy, but now I'm moving about 8 miles further away. So not so much. :)

And Cosmo, I still get some fat from a lot of things. I get fat from my milk (I can't do skim) and most of my dinners. I'll probably go back to the 2% cheese slices next time. These taste like glue.

    The joys of biking ...

Went for a ride yesterday afternoon. About 8 miles down the road, I blow out the rear tire. 15 minutes later, I'm back on the road after changing the flat and using my tiny little portable bike bike to inflate it to about half the pressure it should be. One block later, I flat out on the front tire. I don't have another spare tube, so I turn around the bike and start walking.

Thankfully, a kind person pulls over and offers help, saving me an 8-mile walk home.

On the flip side of things, I decided I simply must avoid fast food. I love me some McD double cheese and fries, but the life of a Dollar Menunaire is going to keep this spare tire around my waste forever.

Well, Idaho, I've relaxed somewhat the last 6-8 weeks. After 9 months of hard work I needed to relax, but I'm feeling sluggy again, so your PM kick in the butt is a good way for me to start up seriously again. Thanks.

FWIW, I lost 50 pounds (from 284 to 230'ish). Gained about 10 back.

Well, xan, I'm impressed that you've made the progress you have.

I'm at about 195 lbs right now but would feel better at 185-190 if I could shed the love handles. But if I can add some mass in the chest and shoulders, I'd gladly move up to 200 lbs. I'm too lazy to do pushups or bench presses, though.

Ides ... pushups are one of the best exercises out there. Works so many different areas -- chest, tris, bis, front delts, back. They suck, but they're well worth the effort.

I'm well aware of that. But, as I said, I'm lazy when it comes to working out that way.

Part of it comes from a broken wrist I suffered about 13 years ago. I have only about 75 percent range of motion in that wrist -- go ahead, children, make the jokes to yourself, but spare the board -- and it hurts the wrist if I put too much weight on it or flex it the wrong way.

Probably all I need to do is use some 10-lb dumbbells to grab and push off of, but ... I'm a lazy man when it comes to any weight work.

    Idaho,

Spend a few dollars on a couple of pushup bars or do pushups on your fists. Using dumbbells would be fine, too. But they should be hexagonal dumbbells. That way there is no slippage into the realm of serious wrist injury.

As far as laziness, I can tell you what I've told a few of my past clients. So if you're interested in that, send me a PM - I wouldn't want to bore the board with it.

I just got back into playing basketball after a few years. Used toplay 4-5 times a week, then moved to a place where I never could get a game, working nights probably hurt too.

But the wife and I joined a gym, I playball and do a little bit of workout.

But I've always felt way better after playing basketball than I ever did after working out. Lifting, etc. is too much like work.

OK, to work the upper body a little bit today, I skipped the spinning studio and spent 30 minutes on the rower. I tried to keep my average at 30 strokes/minute and the machine said I went 5,534 meters.

Follow that up with a few pushups and 15 minutes on the eliptical for some cardio.

    My shoulders feel it.

And I think I will invest $10 or whatever in a pair of pushup bars. I have the hex dumbells, but they wobble a little bit, so the bars will be a safer and more effective option. Now I just have to find a good motivation to keep doing 50 pushups or so everyday. I don't need to look like Karl Malone, I just want some definition in my manboob muscles and a little more mass in the shoulders and pecs.

Ides, I would congratulate anyone else, but I have to give you hell... 5,500 meters in a half hour???? Was the flywheel moving in reverse? Did you drop anchor halfway through? *grin*

I have no idea if I was going slow, fast or what. I just sat down and tried to row at a 30 strokes per minute pace. The computer monitor thingy said 5,500 meters.

I'm soooo tempted to go out and do a crit race tonight. we're having a little bit of a cold snap and it might scare away some of the regulars so there is a chance I can place in the top 10 and get some points for the season series instead of getting dropped by the peloton and looking like the poser wannabe I really am.

Ide's, I'm going to go all JDV and boast... My personal best on the Concept 2 is between 7,300 and 7,400 meters in a half hour. And I did it as a lightweight (165 pounds or less). The very best lightweights in the world can do about 8,800 meters in a half hour. I've seen the 8,900 meter number hit, but can't remember ever seeing 9,000 for a lightweight. 7,300 to 7,400 meters doesn't come close to getting me a serious ranking, but it's the best I am capable of by just spending everything I have after a few days off.

The best heavyweights (over 165 pounds) can get it up between 9,000 and 9,300 meters for a half hour. I marvel at that.
