Good to hear. find a group ride or two in your area and see if there is a slower pace group you can join. you'll enjoy group rides.

I did an impromptu tri at the gym Friday. 750m swim, ran up to do an hour in the spin class and then ran on the treadmill for a mile. It sucked.

Saturday, did a 26 mile out and back on one of the streets in suburbia because I decided to skip the local road race up in the mountains for a birthday party with my little dude. Nice rollers all the way. Out averaged 15 mph with a little wind in the face and slight uphill on average. Stopped at the turnaround for a long drink, a wizz and some energy gels. Averaged 21 mph coming home. I just love the road.

My run this morning was 18 miles and change. I think I averaged right at 15.5 for the distance. The first nine miles was easy the last nine not so much. I can't put a finger on it but when I finished I knew that was it and trying to go any further would have been very counter productive, but it's not like my legs were about to fall off. Oh well. My goal is to step up the mileage by one mile/week. In six weeks that will have me at the Olympic tri distance, which is what I'm shooting for. Then I can really get to training.

OK, I'd fallen off a bit the past couple weeks, what with moving and just being lazy. But I haven't put on any weight, so that's good.

Went to the store today, bought whole-wheat hamburger buns and bread, some chicken breasts, some turkey, yogurt, lowfat cottage cheese and some frozen dinners from Weight Watchers. Also tried the Coca-Cola Cherry Zero, which is reallllly good.

    Here we go again.

I've been meaning to pick up the Cherry Zero since I saw it a few weeks ago. Glad to hear they got the taste right.

If you're looking for frozen dinners try the South Beach variety, the only microwaveable food that has kept me full for more than 30 minutes.

The South Beach ones are good for what they are, but they're TERRIBLE points wise on Weight Watchers. I've found the Lean Cuisine paninis are good, and only 7 points.

So I lifted legs yesterday for the first time in months really, aside from a set here and there for shits and giggles. I do some squats, just to get my legs into that again, but when I'm unloading the weights frmo the rack, this dude says if I stack another plate up he'll go set-for-set with me. Of course, despite not having done squats in months, I said sure. It was great having someone right there to challenge me, and get me going.

It's not so great walking around so funny today. Sitting doesn't hurt, standing doesn't hurt, walking doesn't hurt much. But sitting down or standing up is a chore. And stairs? Oh my......

Had a nice little run this morning, 12 miles. Want to get into a push-up game that I did a while ago, it's called "Calendar Push-Ups". You use a deck of cards, and do that many push-ups as the card says. J = 11, Q = 12, K = 13, A = 1 and hold. You get up to 365. Couple of summers ago I did twice the deck. I want to try that again soon.

I max out at about two miles of running. Have I mentioned how much I hate running?

There's a huge difference between running/swimming/biking shape. I have noticed this after graduating from school and not running every day due to athletics.

It's weird. I ran cross country and the 3200 in high school.

My college job was as a quality control tester at a treadmill manufacturing company where I ran probably 10 miles per night, five nights a week for two years.

After I quit that job, I just stopped running. I've tried a few times to restart that type of exercise, but have hated it badly after a few times and given up. Poor discipline on my part, IMO.

But now, I'm doing it for a purpose and still loathe it unless there's someone worth talking to on the treadmill next to me.

I have a feeling I'll run my 5k in the tri and not run much after that.

Get off the treadmills, they are pretty pointless if the weather is nice outside. Get into a park to run, you'll like it a lot more.

I haven't tried running outside yet (that will change in approx. 11 hours)

But, what I do like about treadmills is the fixed incline, the timer, distance, HR monitor and mileage.

Yes, I know I could buy a HR monitor, run up a hill while wearing a pedometer and wear a watch...

But I own none of those and really don't feel like shelling out the cash for them.

I think I'll just start by running down the street for 15 minutes...and then back.
