Re soda: The average can has between 150-180 calories and 40-50 grams of carbs. I know people who drink six cans of soda a day. That's close to 1200 calories and between 240-300 grams of carbs.

    Yikes! :(

As for the chemicals in diet soda, 21, oh well. A little Windex never hurt anyone. ;)

Another product that's marketed for women but is pretty good is Crystal Light. Five calories and no carbs per serving and the stuff tastes pretty good, especially the raspberry lemonade. It helps you get a little sweet without derailing yourself.

Flag, did you try the Luna bars, as discussed? Definitely marketed to women, but so far no known cases of any men becoming menopausal as a result of eating....

Good story in today's Wall Street Journal (Personal Journal section) on metabolism, how to measure yours, and what jacks it up.

    Raises metabolism:
--Building muscle (burns calories even when you're sleeping)
--Cold weather (body uses calories to create extra heat to maintain temperature)
--Small regular meals (digesting food burns calories, and digesting protein burns more calories than carbs or fat)

    Lowers metabolism:
--Crash diets (body panics at the sudden drop in calories and slows metabolism by as much as 30%)
--Losing weight (smaller bodies need fewer calories)
    --Being female. (Fuck).

So THAT'S why IJAG insisted on carrying a camera with her everywhere she went during her stay in NY.

I hate you, IJAG. I really and truly dew. :D

    J_D:

That's the problem with how things are labeled or pushed. The fact that that can, which has the words "100% Juiced" on it, is worse for you than soda is screwed up.

Schools hear Snapple, Snapple says they add fruit or vitamins or something, and the schools snap it up. And get paid mega-bucks to do it.

It a label doesn't say "Not from concentrate," then it ain't juice. Tropicana OJ is juice. So is Ceres. Both are fresh and not reconstituted with water.

So among our friends here who do workout, what's your routine? Running? Weights? Elliptical gliders that make you look like Elaine Benes dancing?

This thread has to go on a diet it is expanding beyond my screen but anyhow my routine:
cardio 3 days lift 3 (2 heavy 1 light) basketball whenever
Cardio could be run, bike or yes Elain Benes dancing on Elliptical. The key I think is change. You can get in ruts. I had been doing a lot of circuit work and deciced to go back to heavy lifting 3 months ago just for a change.
