I'm afraid to ask, because I've seen the results....but how heavy?

    Hey 21,

Since you seem to be the resident expert here, I have a question for you...

I usually go to the gym in the morning after eating breakfast (Eggbeaters, English muffins with jelly, orange juice).

Sometimes I'll get halfway through my workout, and hit the wall. I'll go from feeling like I have a lot of energy left to zero in about three minutes.

As if I could fall asleep right then and there on the bench.

This does not happen every day, but often enough. Am I eating anything wrong? What do you recommend?

Just my opinion? English muffins, jelly, orange juice...all carbs, all sugar (those pasty white gluey muffins included). Your insulin kicks in to deal with the sugar, and when it falls, so do you.

Either work out before you eat, or swap the muffins/jelly for whole wheat toast/peanut butter. Skip the OJ, if possible.

Another reason to eat before you work out: your cardio starts burning through your stored sugar before it ever gets to your fat. If you have sugar/carbs stored, it can take a least 20-30 minutes to get rid of it, before you even start burning fat. So you're hardly burning off the breakfast you just ate.

21 - Still haven't tried the Luna bars. I usually don't eat energy bars unless I'm playing golf or hiking or biking, etc. But I will try them at some point.

On to your other question ... workout schedule ...

Monday - Chest, tri, abs, 20 min. high intensity stair climber
Tuesday - Back, bi, shoulders, forearms
Wednesday - Legs, 20 min. on exercise bike (before the weights to loosen up).
    Thursday - Chest, tri, abs
Friday - Back, bi, shoulders, forearms, 20 min. stair climber

I try to switch up the exercises within the main groups to keep things fresh and fun. Also on the non-cardio days, I like to try to play basketball or tennis, etc.

And every 6-8 weeks, I take a week completely off to give the body a little time to recover and keep things from getting too repetitive. Your body will tell you when you need the time off.

The amount of weight you lift really does not matter as long as it is enough to meet you're goal for workout.
If I am in a heavy lifting phase my end goal is to reach a certain wgt at each station.  My goal this time around was to get back to a 300lbs on bench which I am pleased to say I hit 305 yesterday.

So you can bench Bill Conlin?
    Impressive.

Conlin weighs around 300. 305 puts Boom at benching Conlin AND Lupica.

Hey Boomer..... you ever mess your rotator cuff up doing any of that bench work before? If so, how long did it take to get back to normal? Ever since trying to double my bench in about a month and a half LAST summer, mine's been shot. I don't even do chest work anymore, but all the exercises I learned to do don't seem to be doing much.

Headbutt ... Were you trying to do too much weight? That sounds like something that happens when you overcompensate with your shoulders and back instead of using your chest.

I lift heavy sometimes, and I've never felt anything in my rotator cuff. I can't do 305, but I have maxed at 275.

HB I never have. your program although admirable seemed aggressive-- sounds like stain. when you do heavy weights you really have to warmup first.

you can try a couple of things to get back to chest work
-use dumbells -- you can control weights better and you will put less strain on area

Use barbell and experiment differiant grip widths. You might find that a width that will allow you less of strained muscle

Use pain theory :as you excercise stop if something hurts and try other exercise
