I go two scoops of chocolate powder into a shaker, fill the rest with water both before and after the workout.
Stuff doesn't taste great but I figured I was having it so much it didn't make sense financially to keep adding it with something like milk. Just fill it from the faucet; like I said doesn't taste great, or particularly bad, just a means to an end.

Not to go TMI, but anyone sometimes have some digestive "issues" from whey protein? Sorry if that's a little too personal, but I'm just curious. It doesn't happen every time, but it's happened enough that I'm never drinking the shake before I run out the door.

Yes, whey makes my farts rather smelly. If you're finding these issues persist, I'd suggest you get tested for lactose intolerance.

Bought a couple of fascinating pieces of workout equipment. An 8x8x16 cinder block (36 pounds) and an 8x8x8 block. We'll see what I can come up with.

Joe, those half miles are strong. Way to go!

Damn, was hoping to post on the almighty page 100 of this thread. Oh well.

Servy, just rough your hands up on those cinder blocks; it'll look like you've been working hard.

    Today
Deadlift 175 pounds, shoulder press 75 pounds, 21-15-9 in 13:02.

Fifty burpees with a 1-foot jump in 5:53.

Hanging L: 0:52, 0:37, 0:35, 0:26, 0:22. The pike is damn good on the first one, but it gets progressively weaker as the sets build. Hanging from your hands like you're going to do a pullup, bring your legs up to a pike position and fight it all the way down.

After weeks and weeks of doing three (two or three) days a week and damn near a month of doing four days a week, I finally made it back to five days this week. Tomorrow I put in my Victory Garden.

You people are crazy. I feel like I've joined a cult.

Saturday is my day off. So I'm planning to get up at 8 a.m. and ride my bike for 45 minutes. Then I want to run a quarter-mile to the local park while carrying a pair of 25-pound dumb bells. Then I'm going to run sprints with them before running back home. If I'm still able to stand, I might do something for a cool down. But I have a 1 p.m. baseball game. So I don't want to make myself too miserable.

I think my whey is vanilla. I've only used it a few times. I think I added a little to some oatmeal.

By the way, there are so many approaches to fitness. It's mind-boggling. My problem: I enjoy all of them.

A friend had inspired me to follow his path. He started two years ago at 250 pounds and now weighs about 150. He's training for half-tris, and he's heavy into cycling. Tonight, he noted that I seem to be taking a different route. We talked a little about bodybuilding as opposed to strength training. He wanted to know which one I was after. I had no answer.

My original goal was to shed 175 pounds without sawing myself in half. I have about 115 pounds to go. As I've increased the intensity of my workouts, though, I've discovered that I really enjoy looking big. I also like being strong. I want to return home this Christmas and watch people's mouths drop open. I don't want them to notice me. I know I can't get there overnight, but I want, eventually, to dwarf those guys in my hometown who used to show up at parties and act like they were the biggest, baddest guys on earth. When some asshole cuts me off in traffic, I want him to see me and realize that I could turn him into a human pretzel.

Then again, I also want to join my buddy in a few sprint tris, and I want to do some trail riding and maybe a multi-state cycling tour for shits and grins.

Can I be all of those people and do all of these things? Or do I need to pick out one plan and go with it?

    I_T,
Fuck punking somebody in traffic. Living well is the best revenge.

And I wish I was the first person to say that.

Fuck yeah, it's a cult. Especially this crossfit shit I'm on. True believers, one and all. I've drank the Kool-Aid and gone back for seconds.

OK, so really what I'm getting at is, I've made a LIFESTYLE change. I'll never again be the lazy fucking slug I can so easily be. I'll work out, in one form or another, for the rest of my life. I have no idea how long I'll live, but I want to be active, I want to be able to enjoy being alive, I want to be able to do things because I'm physically able. I want to live.

And it sounds like you've made that choice, too. I congratulate you. I celebrate you. Because you have chosen life. Salude, my online friend. Salude.

I'm not a "runner" per se, but anyone that is, is a 1/4 mile with two 25-pound dumbbells a lot? I don't know it just kind of seems like it is. If you've done it before and it's fine I_S then go for it. But if you haven't, that seems like it could be kind of difficult shoulder-wise. My opinion is you don't even need the dumbbells; just run further and harder if you want to ramp up the workout. Then do the shoulders and arms when you get home. Just my $.02.

I don't see that as adding any benefits to your workout, boobie, and, yes, I would be concerned about shoulder injury with that.

Instead of weighting your run, try running harder.

The quarter of a mile isn't that far. Unless you are really out of shape, a quarter of a mile on its own -- and not part of some interval training -- isn't going to accomplish much from a cardiovascular standpoint. That is about a minute and a half of running for some people. That is great if you are sprinting, resting, sprinting, doing some kind of strength training in between, etc...

Just running a quarter mile interval, I would never do it holding dumbbells, because it's not good for the running and I think it's inviting injury. When you run, you should concentrate on form. It's too easy to get lazy and not run the right way, which is how you end up sidelined. Holding dumbbells is going to be a distraction that takes your focus off where it should be. Also, it is making the running less productive. When running any distance (sprinters also get taught this stuff too, though), most advice says to keep your hands loose and relaxed, not clenched up (and not with the fingers wide open and palms straight). It's all about keeping your arms and hands relaxed. And the wide, rigid, open hand or clenched fist cause your forearms, upper arm and shoulders to be tight. This makes your arm muscles less elastic and it causes you to fight yourself when you move. It has an affect on your running. Watch a wide receiver or defensive back run. They never have their hands clenched. They want to keep their arms relaxed. It helps them run faster and it makes their arms and hands relax, so they are softer for catching he ball.

I can see running with ankle weights to strengthen your legs, but holding dumbbells would scare me. Just seems bad for the running and you are also inviting a pulled muscle or some kind of accident that can cause injury.

Yeah that would be my advice, with anything really. If you need to trick out your exercise you're probably just not working hard enough. I just wanted to double-check on this because I'm not a runner, but it just seemed like it wouldn't be good for you.

When I asked if 1/4 mile with 25 lb dumbbells a lot, I didn't mean the 1/4 mile part being a lot; I meant the 25 lb dumbbells sounding like a lot.

I have to laugh. I posted that at about midnight Friday after filing a gamer. I got up at 6 a.m. At 4 p.m., I covered a double-header in 90-plus heat. By the time I made it home, I had a stinging sunburn on my arms, chest and face, and I was chugging Crystal Light. I was a little irrational.

You'll be happy to know that I woke up on Saturday and didn't even consider any sort of exercise. It didn't take long to realize that my plan was ridiculous. But it sounded good Friday night.

It turns out that I did nothing this weekend. It was the laziest I've been in two months, and I also ate something unhealthy for the first time in 12 weeks. I think I earned it. I'll still be down about five pounds this week. I'm going to bed after the Survivor finale, and then it'll be time for another 12-week run.
