    Today

Fifty situps, jump rope double unders, situps, walking lunges, situps, burpees, situps. Could not get any fracking rhythm on the double unders, and what should have taken me 3:30 took me seven fracking minutes. Burpees are burpees, and they always suck.

    Total time, 25:14. Ouch.

21-mile hard tempo ride in the morning. About 750 feet of elevation gain and an average speed of 19.7 mph.

Followed that with a similar 19-mile hard tempo ride in the evening with 850 feet of elevation gain and a 20.3 mph average.

The second ride came after picking up my bib number and race packet for Saturday's triathlon. Water temps are 59-62 degrees so my wetsuit will come in handy. I'm really wishing I had the swim booties, though.

I finally got back on the bike after a two-week break. I missed my cardio. I rode for an hour. I think I only put in 18 miles in my living room, but I read a book, too.

    Today:
65-pound thrusters (10), pullups (10), as many rounds as you can in 20 minutes. I did seven full rounds, 10 thrusters and two pullups in exactly 20 minutes.

Now, for the running in honor of Spc. James I Lambert III, killed July 31, 2003, in Baghdad. I broke it up into quarter-miles. First one was run at approximately 8.3 mph, took 1:49. Then, 10 mph, 1:35; 10.5 mph, 1:28, 11.3 mph, 1:22.

Started with a 215 1RM. Seemed easy. Went up to 225. Felt like I could do more. Trainer said next time. Do your regular sets and we'll try again next week.

Thus, I did my regular sets at 205.

How far down on those squats, Flash? Ninety degrees, full?

I looked at the exercise equipment for five minutes last night in the lobby of the Fairfield Inn in Palm Beach. But I won't make it there this morning. I don't have any socks. We packed quickly for an impromptu trip to Key West, where we've never been. So we're stopping at Wallie World in another hour to pick up some socks. Then I might go for a run on the beach tonight.

I did swim a few laps last night. I estimated the distance is 15 yards. So each lap was 30 yards. That means 25 laps equals a half-mile, the sprint triathlon distance.

Had a decent -- not good, not bad -- triathlon Saturday. Finished in 1:25 flat for 66th in the sprint distance and 7th in the age group. As always, you look back and see areas I could have done better in and time I could have saved. There's always next time for that, though.

But the local paper where this race was held makes me chuckle. A guy had a medical emergency at the end of the swim and the local reporter tells us he died in the water, but is now breathing.
