    Friday's workout:

Bent-over DB rows: 4 sets of 10. 2 with 40s, 2 with 55s. Will increase weight and lower reps next week.
Straight-Leg DB deadlifts: 4 sets of 10 with same weight as DB rows
    Hammer curls: 4 sets
Concentration curls: 2 sets of 15 reps with low weight.
Walk: 1.5 miles. The first mile in sunshine. The last half-mile in a downpour that soaked me all the way through to my Fruit of the Looms.

    Saturday
40 miles indoors on my stationary bike. My legs hurt like hell from the deadlifts, but I got through it. It took 2 hours and 21 minutes. Not great. But it's a start.

    10,759 feet.

That was what the sign said at the top of Bald Mountain Pass as I pedaled into the 125 mile checkpoint.

I wasn't as quick as I had hoped, but I wasn't too far off. I milked it at three of the aid stations, stretching, eating, drinking and stretching. But I wrapped up 171 miles, 9,544 feet of ascent, six bananas, two clif bars, three PBJs, an apple, eight hammer gels, four ibuprofens and 14 water bottles in about 11 total hours, 10:15 of actual time in the saddle.

Fresca is a surprisingly refreshing drink after a long hot day on the bike.

You're crazy. I only went one-fourth that distance, and I can barely walk. I popped some ibuprofen as soon as I got off the bike.

Sept. 6 is my 206 mile race. It's 35 miles longer, but I think it will be much easier. For one thing, it won't have a headwind trying to blow me back down a 40-mile climb to the top of a mountain.

Yesterday, I keep trying to tell myself, was just a training race for the one next month.

Then I'm hanging up the bike for a week or two and will just do nice and easy swim workouts.

Yikes. Where do you feel it most when you do a long race?

My feet and butt cheeks get the worst of it, usually.

My legs actually feel fine right now and weren't bad during the race, but my feet were on fire during the big climb. There was a little stream running beside the road and I can't tell you how many times I wanted to stop, take my shoes off and soak my feet in the cold water.

I neglected to apply chamois cream before the race, so my cheeks are a little rosy and raw right now. (I know, tmi)

Sometimes, my back has a muscle spasm and I need to rest it. But no such problem yesterday.

    Today, "Griff" at Stankowski Field.

Run 800 meters, 400 meters backward, 800 meters, 400 backward.

    3:24 first 800 to 5:47. Rest 40 seconds or so. 3:50 to 6:07.

Unfortunately, the 400s actually were more like 268 and change, but with the heat and humidity, I'll take it.

I used part of my tax rebate to work with a trainer. I dropped 4 percent bodyfat in the last two weeks while remaining at the same weight (though I'm embarassed to say from what to what) and today I did a trap bar deadlift with 315, the first time I've ever trained with the exercise.

Tiny Taters ... try to remember that you're killing off fat by building more muscle. Your weight may stay the same as you build that muscle but you're improving the fat-burning machine inside of you and the weight will eventually come off.

One pound of muscle takes up way less space than one pound of fat!

Never having done a true one-rep max before, I'm amazed at how wiped out I feel now.

Did you feel it was somewhat easier because of the trap bar? I'm really one for scraping the shit out of my legs with a straight bar. More fun that way ... LOL.

Of course, I'm also the girl that cracks herself under the chin with the bar on the up of a push-press.

    Sigh ...

I've never really done a regular deadlift, so I couldn't tell you. The trainer said it's easier to learn form with the trap bar.
