Holy cow what a sweet recovery ride today. I took the day off yesterday but went for a 25-mile spin on the tri bike. There was a headwind on the way out and a tailwind on the way back.

Average speed was 27.4 mph for the entire ride. It can be so much fun hitting 35 mph on the tri bike and not really be feeling the burn. You're passing cars with ease in the 30 mph zone and they roll up next to you at the stop light and throw a compliment out the window about your speed at you.

    fun, fun, fun

Makes me want to sign up for a triathlon this weekend even though I haven't run in a month because of the focus on the bike.

Yesterday was a bad day - felt sluggish, ankle bothered me, only did 23 minutes low-intensity walking...so tonight got back up to 3.2 mph, 33 minutes, and got quite a workout (for me). Felt good, too. And, someone talked with me about my weight loss and how things were going for quite a while. Good sign.

I have a rotten cold. It's been five days since I've had exercise. As if the cold isn't bad enough, the lack of exercise makes me feel like a bag of dung. But I just can't do it. When I'm sick, exercise knocks me on my ass. I've learned that lesson. So I'm waiting it out.

I_T, I know what you're saying about not wanting to work out when you feel sick. But sometimes when I feel shitty, if I push myself and get in a workout -- even if it's just at 75 percent or so -- I feel much better afterward, and especially the next day. Something about the endorphins released or just forcing myself to go when all I want to do is veg on the couch makes me feel better, helps me get over being sick quicker.

That said, today is going to be a bitch.

If you aren't so sick that you can't lift your legs... What I love to do is workout at the gym and get in something in which I sweat A LOT. Then I go collapse in the steam room for 20 minutes. It's probably all in my head, but I always seem to feel like I have sweated and heat soaked all the germs out of me, and I always feel better. The only thing uncool about it is that I am a walking germ factory and I am sweating all over stuff that other people will use. It won't stop me, though, if it is just a minor bug that isn't going to stop me from doing other stuff, like working.

That's how I handled it in the past. I ran a few miles, took a steaming hot bath, cranked up the heat and crawled into bed under a few blankets. The last time I tried it, though, my body rejected. I zapped my last bits of energy, and I nearly had to crawl around the house to do things. If only I had an orderly.

Today, Crossfit's "Murph," one of the four or five hardest workouts for me: Run 1 mile, do 100 pullups, 200 pushups and 300 squats partitioned any way you want -- I did 5, 10 15, Cindy workout style -- then run another mile.

I took it easy on the first mile, running it in 7:57, because the last time this workout came up, I killed myself on the first mile. At the halfway point of the workout, I was at 25:03. The last half took longer, and I finished in 1:01:55. Not great, but it's still 10 minutes faster than the last time, so I'll take it.

Train hard, and, yep, have fun.

In 10 days, I'll be eating the biggest meal I can find in Jackson, Wyoming.
Either that or I'll be sound asleep with two of the most tired legs in the state.
I will have pedaled 206 miles and burned close to 10,000 calories.

The theory on 'sick' is that if it's the neck and above, go work out. Just be careful not to spread your germs (wipe your bench, etc.).

If it's below the neck, stay home and rest.

I knew there was something like that. I believe you've posted that a few times. I am nearing the end. I think I'll be back into the full swing this afternoon.

Yoga class was cancelled this morning. So I did a mile swim instead.
