    Today, Crossfit's "Linda": Deadlift, bench press, clean 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 for time. I went with 205 dl, 125 bench, 95 clean.

    Total time: 33 minutes flat. And I was completely soaked with sweat when I got done.

    So you did 10-10-10 and then cycled back through each lift? That's a weird one, but I suppose it does the job.

    I still haven't hit 200 on the bench press. That was my goal for August. I guess it's now my goal for September.

    I did eight reps at 170 and six reps at 180. So I think I can lift it. The one-time max calculator says I already should be able to lift it. But I'm just not ready to try it. I want it to be a natural part of my routine. So I'll probably go for it when I increase my starting weight by 10 pounds. I'm starting at 160 now. I was starting at 150 last month. So I moved up 10 pounds and also moved up 10 pounds on the incline bench.

    I'm really happy with the improvements. My form is improving, and I'm getting more reps out of sets. Over the summer, I was struggling to do four reps on my last few sets. I started off in March with a 135-pound max bench press. I moved up to 150 rather quickly and seemed to increase it by about five pounds every two weeks.

    I'm also noticing that the calories are burning off a lot faster. That is to say that i can eat more without it hurting me. I was unsure that the increased muscle would lead to better weight loss. I'm not sure that it has. But it definitely helps me maintain on days when I eat too much.

    Yeah, 10 of each, then nine, then eight and so on. Cleans were too easy, so I likely should have used 110 or so for those.

    Shit, Idaho, that's outstanding for a 206-mile ride in the Tetons! You should be very happy. Now go eat a double-stack of pancakes.

    In a semi-related note, I'm in for Ironman Wisconsin 2009.

    Shit, simply riding 206 miles is outstanding. To do it with steep climbs is incredible. And to do it at 18 miles per hour is phenomenal. But how much can you bench? ;)

    I did flat benches with 80 pound dumbbells for three reps today. I felt my left shoulder give a little on the last rep, but otherwise it was OK and a new PR.
    It feels good to know I could lift any dumbbell in any Planet Fitness (but get thrown out for grunting, which is why I don't train at a place like that anymore).

    I wasn't; I've never even belonged to a Planet Fitness, but there was a much-publicized case of a guy who was kicked out of one of those gyms for grunting.
    The last gym I trained at had a similar rule, but I didn't lift that heavy then. Now I go to a powerlifting/strongman place.

    A friend/teammate of mine raced Ironman Wisc last week. He qualified for worlds and was 36th overall. Really solid race for him.

    As for my race, I think with a minor amount of extra effort, I would have broken 11 hours. The climbs were all up front with about 6,500 of the 7,500 vertical feet coming in the first 110 miles. Then is was endure to the end. I had a mini-bonk from mile 130 to 160, but it was mostly just being tired not a fueling/hydration thing. I caught my second wind up the Snake River Canyon towards Jackson and my intervals improved. I went from having the 64th fastest first interval to the 35th fastest final interval.

    So that was encouraging but also tells me I needed to go faster to start the race. but being my first time doing it, I played it conservatively.

    If I do it next year, the goal will be 10:45 -- trim 20 minutes off the first climb, 5 off the second and third climbs, and maybe not take as much time at the feed zones.

    Yes, Planet Fitness has a series of rules. I don't think you're allowed to sweat there either.
