    Learn to breathe? Try yoga.

Today, my modified "Nate": 6 pullups and 6 dips; 4 85-pound shoulder press; 8 50-pound kettlebell swings, as many rounds as you can do in 20 minutes. I got five full rounds and the pullups and dips and one shoulder press in the 20 minutes. My dip strength sucks, and the strict shoulder presses got hard on round four. Pullups and swings were easy -- maybe too easy.

Afterward, I did 8 and 6 pullups to have a daily total of 50. Then I did three sets of 10 overhead squats with a 15- to 20-pound bar.

Then I did another day's workout. Clean and jerk 95 pounds, 1 the first minute, 2 the second minute, etc., as long as you can go. I got five full rounds and 5 on the sixth round.

All in all, another good workout. It feels good to be sore again.

Late afternoon rides along tiny little roads in the fall are delightful.

I shot these photos yesterday during my ride up a local canyon.

31 miles, 2,800 feet of vertical gain. Just a sweet, sweet, sweet two hours in the saddle.

What Flash said, and you don't need to shell out for a yoga class. Most beginning level DVDs feature sections on learning to breath properly.

The good news is I ran for 10 minutes today without slowing or stopping... treadmill was set at 5.2 mph, so i was short of a mile, but it was the first time I ran that long without having to stop... so it's a small victory!

I may have overdone it with squats today. 175 pounds, and, um, well, my butt is sore.

Today, 95-pound squat clean 10-8-6-4-2, alternating with 50-40-30-20-10 situps. I finished in 12:27.

Then, four rounds of 21 65-pound strict shoulder presses alternating with 21 back extensions. I finished in 16:59.

That's one and four-sevenths workouts today (the presses and extensions called for seven rounds) to get back into the swing of things.

Hit a PB on my bench this morning. My upper body strength is improving.

    One of those days...

Road 21.2 miles to and from the pool, where I swam 2900 yards (repeats and intervals included) in around 50 minutes, highlighted by 500 yards in 7:20. On the way home I decided a run would be good so I did 5.6 miles in 45:20.

Suddenly, I'm rethinking a planned break after my big race next week.

On Monday, I did a trap bar deadlift with 315 for five reps. Two months ago, I did 315 once.
Tomorrow, I'm learning to deadlift with a straight bar, aiming to compete on Dec. 13.

Today, "Cindy": 5 pullups, 10 pushups, 15 squats, as many rounds as you can do in 20 minutes. I got 12 full rounds plus the 5 pullups and 3 pushups. I finished up the 13th round in 21:13. For as crappy as I have been about going to the gym this summer and fall, that's only two full sets off my personal best.

Then I did four sets of 10 overhead squats with the 15-20 pound bar.
