Normally I work out on Thursday nights after work (with a trainer), but tonight, i have to attend a work function so that was out. Fit in a 10-minute run on the treadmill and then walked for five more minutes at a 15 percent incline before I stretched and showered and got back to work only a few minutes later than i should have...

Kind of happy with myself that knowing i wouldn't make it tonight didn't keep me from fitting at least something in today, even if it was short and sweet.

I'm starting to train for a push-pull (bench/deadlift) meet in March and I'm deciding between two meets.
One is on March 15 and it's a lot closer to home, but it's also on the same day as the state championship hockey games. There's a chance that one of the schools I cover might make it to the finals. It's not 100 percent certain it will happen, but there is a good chance.
The other meet is on March 28. It's further away (in the same place as my first meet, which required an overnight stay) but no potential work conflict.
I'd rather do the meet on the 15th, but I don't want to train my ass off for 10-12 weeks and not be able to compete because of a work conflict.

surviving the first week after 11 days off of lifting fairly well. surprised the gym hasn't been as crowded. the first week of january is usually amateur hour, kind of like new year's eve at the bars.

Matt, good job fitting something in, even if it wasn't your usual workout.

I'm very pleased with the palace that is the Philly Courtyard's Fitness Center. Plenty of cardio AND weights to choose from, so I mixed some things up a bit and made my own hour-long workout.

Gotta get one in tomorrow AM, too, then hopefully the central NJ marriott has a decent workout room, too.

I've taken the last week off to recover from a sinus infection. I'm bracing myself for the newbs when I go back on Sunday.

For what it's worth, the gym clears of the fallen resolutioners along about Valentine's Day.

Today I swam for the first time in two-and-a-half months. Gotta stop taking these breaks. 1,000 yards felt like 3,000.

And yesterday I broke in my new running shoes with 32 easy minutes that felt like 64.

Four to six weeks, it takes them to give up ... and since there's one week down ...

Just had a tremendous workout today. I worked out arms and the progress is really starting to show. Not only in the definition, but the strength.

    Skullcrushers - 10 X 85, 8 X 95, 6 X 105
    Overhead extenders - 10 X 120, 8 X 140, 8 X 160
    Close-grip bench - 10 X 135, 8 X 145, 6 X 165
    Incline bench curls - 10 X 25, 8 X 30, 6 X 35
    Horizontal preacher curls (no legs) - 10 X 85, 8 X 95, 6 X 105, 4 X 115

    Oh, definitely.

My only resolution was to cut out weekday drinking, which I failed at miserably in the fall. So far, so good. I've only had a couple of drinks since New Year's Eve, all last Saturday.

I was alcohol-free since approx. 3 a.m. New Year's Day ... until five minutes ago. Nothing wrong with a few glasses of wine on a Friday night, though. ;)

Not at all. I'll probably have a beer after work. The eight beers five nights a week needed to stop, though.
