Today: The first time in as long as I can remember that I ran/walked 3 miles with no break. Time was 37:24, with splits of 11:20 for the first mile; 23:42 for two miles (12:22) and then 13:42 for the last mile (too much walking, dammit!!!)...

But it's a start and I'm going to keep getting the distance up and the times down!

Went for a 24-mile bike ride today and I have started boxing in the garage. It's amazing how great a workout punching the bag is. also, it's great to relieve stress.

I attempted to do a set of 20-rep box squats today. I started having to rest a little and catch my breath between reps after eighyt reps. At 16, my legs came out from under me and I whacked my elbow on a chain that was like self-spotting device. After a spot from another guy in the gym, I re-racked and did the remaining four reps.
    Man, that was scary.

Honest question, and I apologize if it seems bizarre: Can sex mess with muscle gain, because of the lost protein?

Sorry if that's weird or creepy, but I sincerely wonder.

Did five reps at 265 on the bench today ... I'm feeling robust!!! Last time I lifted 265 was about four years ago, and it was my one-rep max.

Um ... where are you losing the protein?

OK, peeps, it was a heavy week at 5x4 and I topped out at 225 on my squats. Thinking I could have been doing 235. But I'll save that for next round. I like this program, using an variable periodization. My strength gains are through the roof.

    Tomorrow, I deadlift.

    Isn't there protein in semen?

Not a discernible enough amount to benefit the receiver nor enough to harm the giver. If you want to believe it's true, though, fuel back up with a protein shake ... er, one that's made of whey powder anyway.

Classic workout music -- pumped up Nine Inch Nails' "Downward Spiral" whilst doing legs yesterday. Forgot how much I liked that record ...

OK, late comer (and that might be a bad pun with the recent question on here about lost protein), and a lot of what you are talking about blows (again, hehehe) my mind, but I need some help.

Quick background. Lost job at Delta, which necessitated a move to Virginia for another job. Had to leave the wife behind for now, which has been painful. Whilst working for Delta, I had dropped about 50 pounds, mainly due to the physical nature of my job. New job doesn't require that physical exertion. Needless to say, I've pack all that back on, plus some.

Yesterday, I weighed myself at the ticket counter. 318. I've never been this heavy in my life. Today, I was moping around and watching Bull Durham. Good movie but still not cheering me up. So I did something I've never done. I went for a walk. A good long walk. About 30 minutes. And I felt so much better. Not completely better, but better.

So I know I need to work out. But I lack the real motivation to hit the gym everyday. But I'm going to try. I have got to lose this weight. I'm not talking about getting to playing weight. But enough to be comfortable in the plane seats again. Enough to fit into my linen pants to play golf again. Enough to not feel this miserable.

So I'm hoping my SportsJournalists.com brethren will help me a bit. Hit me up with PMs asking if I did anything physical today. Send me a text telling me to get to the gym.

I'm joining one tomorrow and I know it won't happen overnight. But I know it's got to get done.

And, like the commercial said, I thank you for your support.
