Take care of yourself

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Johnny_Dangerously, Sep 11, 2003.

If anyone who is successful at eating healthy would be brave enough to post his or her food diary here for one week, with as much detail as possible, I'd bet a lot of people would read it with interest. I know I would.

It would give some insight, especially into how a working journalist manages to stay fit with our crazy hours and travel, etc.

I'd be eternally grateful. Maybe we could pay you for your troubles ... via PayPal. Just set up a button for it on your profile. :D

I could probably make that happen. I was keeping up with that for a while...

Though I'm not a great example. My eating habits have gone from extremely healthy to generally healthy. The drop-or-die part of my weight loss scheme is over. It's all about maintaining and maybe dropping a pound or two per month...

Not to knock the thread with the great writing tips, which I like, but can't we make this thread a sticky topic too? I think our health is at least as important as our action verbs and active voice(s). Or is this thread over?

To try to revive it, and in light of posts lost to the blackout, I provide a link to some of the ideas that were posted at our safe house:

Someone recently offered to send me his food diary by e-mail. Hey, are you still out there?

And does anyone else have anything new to add to this thread? Or am I the only one that would like to see it stay at the top, with the writing tips?

Since I unstuck the back again thread - don't tell Webby it was me! - I'll stick this for a while because it did provide some useful tips last time. If it goes too long without fresh material, I'll unstick it.

I ended up going with the New Balance running shoes, by the way. The suggestions of Brooks Beast, Asics Gel Kayano and the NB 587 were all excellent and it turned out all three were good for my big-ass self and my "style." NB were on sale/when all else is equal go with price.

I appreciate all the contributions to that now-lost thread.

Thanks, Moddy. If the thread reveals a prolonged lack of interest, feel free to pull the plug and take it off life support at the appropriate time.

J_D, maybe someone can provide tips to help you with your bumpoholism and sticky thread envy.

I contacted Dr. Phil, and he said he's entirely booked, what with his show and agreeing to try to help you overcome post padding. He said you haven't made it past the first of 12 steps -- admitting there's a problem.

I should have posted the Minute Maid Light stuff here. My bad.

For anyone seeking shoes, Asics has asked its retailers to cut prices on the "old" Kayano IXs. They were around $110 until this weekend, when they dropped to $65 in my area. I've seen them around that price on a few Internet sites.

If you want some bad-ass shoes at ham-and-egger prices, this is the time.

I'm going for my 11s tomorrow morning.

One tip I can't stress enough:If you want to lose weight, keep a food diary. While I don't weigh and measure everything I eat or count every calorie, it has helped me lose 54 pounds since February.
I always resisted keeping a food diary in the past. I thought it was too much of a hassle, but it hasn't turned out to be as bad as I thought it would be and I really believe it is the single most important thing that I've done to make this weight loss possible.

    SP,

The food diary is a great idea. It works for many people.

The next step is to plan your meals and not just the next one. I understand I'm a bit anal about it, but I plan meals for the next couple of weeks. That includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and the three snacks/mini meals.

Plan those meals and you'll find that you're eating better and the weight will come off faster. Also, you'll see that you're spending less money on fast food and bad calories.

It may seem like a lot of work at first, but like anything once you get the routine down, it's easy. And your body will thank you for it.

Question for you? Are the 50-plus pounds you lost 50-plus pounds of fat or 50-plus pounds of weight? I only ask because many people obsess over weight loss when they should be concerned about fat loss.
