There are few things more annoying than getting an itch midway through a set of squats.

    German potato soup for me.

I'm into the second week of my second time through P90X. Once I got past the initial couple weeks of that first time through, it's been really enjoyable. I've lost about 12 pounds (still 10 pounds over my "playing weight"), but other results have been amazing. I am stronger now than when I was a college athlete.

The up-tempo nature has really helped when I do cardio, too. I hadn't just run in a couple months, but went out and did about 2 1/2 miles much more easily than I ever could before. I could go on and on, but I'm glad I made the investment after reading more in depth about the program right here on this board.

Did, with 11 coworkers, the Palmetto 200.

It was amazing. And I hurt all over.

It was freaking amazing and we had a BLAST. I was runner 6 in van 1, which left me with runs of 8, 3.4 and 3.7 miles. Our start time was 6:30 a.m. Friday and we finished just before 5 p.m. Saturday. My start times were around 11 a.m., 10 p.m. and 10 a.m.

I'm nothing close to a hard-core runner ... pretty much the only thing I do is the Cooper River Bridge Run and then I generally make excuses not to run the rest of the year. Figured I'd let this be my kick in the ass to keep running.

    The first run: http://palmetto200.com/doc/Palmetto200Leg06.html
And when they say "Significant uphill at 4.2 miles into leg that lasts for .5 miles," they really mean "you're climbing up this mountain that nobody knew existed." Survived that one ... somehow ... to live to battle ...

    The second run: http://palmetto200.com/doc/Palmetto200Leg18.html
This was my first holy-crap-it's-dark run that didn't take place in a familiar setting. Which made things a little dicey/creepy/weird/exciting/lots of other stuff. Was a little tough to spend the run alternating between running on the road and diving into the weeds to get out of the way of cars (and run). Made the mistake of running in some light pants and regretted it pretty much the whole way.

    The third run: http://palmetto200.com/doc/Palmetto200Leg30.html
Wow. The first time in my life that I really got to understand what it means when somebody says they had nothing left in the tank. When I went to give it a little extra in the middle of my run, my legs told my mind to STFU. Had enough left though to look good coming into the exchange zone, though.

The overall experience was amazing. My teammates and even the other runners couldn't have been better or nicer. Kind of like everybody was in this thing together. I'm reallllly slow when I run (compared to pretty much everybody else on our team), but I came in ahead of the splits I said I'd run, so that felt like a pretty major accomplishment (even if it was still really slow).

It was so odd, though, to be running at odd times, eating at odd times, only getting about 3 hours of sleep with six of us crammed into a Holiday Inn Express, starting our final leg at 4:30 a.m. and so on.

It's all kind of a blur now, though I'll try to post any other thoughts that come to me. And I'd be glad to answer any questions anybody has.

Mrs. Wallace and I finished our first half-marathon Sunday morning in a whopping 2:58.03. What a mental and physical challenge. Our goal was a pace of 12 minutes per mile, which was slower than I would have liked, but we wanted to run together. With the treacherous hills along the course, our pace was slowed down, and the wife had to fight through some cramps and sideaches, but we made it under 3 hours, which was our goal.

What a challenge. After months of training it was great to actually hit the course and get it done. I look forward to doing some other sort of race before the summer is over.

This is horrifying and infuriating: Consumer Reports tests various protein drinks. and finds highly elevated levels of arsenic, lead, and other goodies.

Will be throwing out all the Muscle Milk, sorry Boom.

Anybody here use weighted vests for, say, running and pullups? I was looking into getting one sometimes for stairs and sprints and maybe longer runs; also for pullups, which are a bit too easy for me since I'm a little guy.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Five reps at 275 on the bench the other day. Felt great. Also, a friend turned me on to cliffhangers for biceps work. Basically, you lean against the slanted side of an incline with your body and put your feet up on the wall and let your arms hang against the perpendicular side for the lift. There's no way possible you can cheat. They feel fantastic.

Also, 21, I hate you for posting that link ... though I didn't see anything from Optimum Nutrition on that list [/hoping]
