Turning the shower on its hottest setting for 30 minutes and doing a "sauna workout" seemed like a good idea.

That does sound like a great idea. Until I'm able to swim more than 500m without feeling like I'm gonna stroke out, I might do that.

Come reacher that's only 10 laps in a 25 mt pool. You need to get to at least 1000 mtrs or 20 laps to get a decent workout.

Was in a serious car crash yesterday.

Alone after a workout. 40 mph and a guy coming in the other direction turned left into me without stopping.

Saw it all flash before me. Everything. I ducked on impact, turning my head left and putting all strength into my arms to keep my head from the windshield.

Got out like I was Marcellius Wallace in Pulp Fiction. Woozy but pissed.

Guy never saw me, admitted fault (texting and driving) and was ticketed for failing to yield. Also he doesn't have insurance. Asshole.

Probably 8 grand in damage. All front end. My impact was head on.

Woke up today I think with a broken right hand. Anyone else here have a major medical issue the day after a bad crash?

In all seriousness, sounds like you got really lucky. Even if the hand is broken.

You should resurrect one of the texting-and-driving threads where people vehemently defend the practice.

Sadly, it happens all the time. They check for the more serious injuries and other stuff gets overlooked.

Or you could be lucky like me and they could send you home with nothing and find out a week later that I was a slight fall away from being paralyzed and had to be rushed in for extensive spinal surgery. I also had a torn rotator cuff that they missed as well.

    Go get everything checked out.

I'm glad you're OK... Hang in there man...

Yes. I am a tri-athlete, so I do them both, but in recent months, I haven't run much. The other day, I was at the gym and the track was open so I decided to get in a run. Two laps later, I'd had enough. Man, I hate to run.

Ex-media hack, sounds like it could have been a lot worse. Glad you got out of it OK, relatively speaking.

Went to see my cardiologist today. I've been having some issues with my blood pressure. My normal is usually around 115-120/75-80, but the last few weeks it's been running consistently in the 140/90 range and even up to the 155/95 range, usually during or after I've been to the gym. Also, my pulse rate has sometimes been a little irregular, like it skips a beat every fifth beat or so.

So, he put me back on a beta blocker to get my BP down (I'd gotten off of it last year after my BP bottomed out, like 90/40 bottomed out), and he ordered a stress test that I have to do on Monday. I haven't had one since a couple of months after my bypass surgery, which was in August, 2007. I'll be interested to see what it shows, since I've been doing a fairly regular exercise program (3 days a week) since November.

I finally joined the fitness center at work and went to the gym yesterday, my first day in more than a year. Holy cow, I'm very out of shape. I did 2,000 meters on the rowing machine, and it took me nearly 10 minutes. Then I did sets of clean and jerk, three reps each round, 65, 75, 85, 95, 100, 85, then 10 at 65 to round it out. I felt the clean in my wrists more than anywhere. The push jerk wasn't that hard, but I was afraid my grip would fail if I tried to go any heavier. A humbling experience, for sure. Back in my CrossFit days, I could pull 500 meters in 2:10 or better for a good 30 or 40 minutes, and I could clean and jerk 140.

    I feel old.

I ran 1.8 miles without walking yesterday. It was the longer run I've finished since 1990.
