What do you all think of TRX?

I've never used them, but everyone I know who uses them, loves them.

I've been learning to play ice hockey. Took skating classes, a learn to play clinic, a session of developmental classes and now I'm joining the rookie league next month. It's really been working as a motivator to get myself into better shape. I am old and fat and slow, but I can fix one of those.

Good luck, Rick. I tried out an adult beginner league in my 20s, but the "skating backward" thing was tough for me to master. Even in a no-check league, I was on my ass many times!

I don't know how many of you are runners, but I've gotten back outside the last few weeks after years, honestly, of sticking to the treadmill. My run is six miles - so about a 10K. I've been steadily improving - today I averaged a 7:49 pace, my best yet. I'll probably do a 5K soon. I ran some marathons in the 2000s, but I kind of like really going for it at the shorter distances.

I don't do a lot of races, but there was a yearly cancer run for the Vince Lombardi foundation. Until this year it went through the Milwaukee zoo - a 5K was basically 2 laps. LOVED that race. They moved it out of the zoo this year, which was a big bummer. Only tangentially related to your point, but races through zoos are cool.
I want to do a 10K, because I've only done 5Ks. But I don't see that happening any time soon. Right now my workouts are early-morning racquetball, which is the only workout I've managed to stick to with the baby around. Having playing partners counting on me is the only thing that gets my ass out of bed that early (waking up at 5).

It's funny to think back that when I did my first marathon, in 2001, there were no iPods or smart phones. My friend and I ran with only each other and our own thoughts to accompany us. I didn't think much of it. Now, 15 years later, I'm loving the running app that I downloaded onto my phone. It effortlessly keeps track of miles, mile splits, pace, and so forth and so on. It's so easy to be motivated with that much information available about your run at any given moment. I guess someone would see it as an intrusion on solitude, but if your goal is to go fast, it's terrific.

Haven't been myself for 2 weeks. Total lethargy. Headaches. Achy. Malaise. Zero desire.

Turned out a 7:19 mile the other day during a six-mile run. Probably the fastest I've ever covered a mile. More where that came from, I hope.

You know, I had to run a 6-minute mile just to start baskeball practice in high school, and I don't think I could run that fast today with a gun to my head.

I'm pretty curious about how fast I'm actually capable of going. Boston Marathon qualifying pace is 7:26. I covered six miles at a 7:36 pace yesterday, though the first three were faster than the second three. I shaved two seconds off my fastest split, to 7:17. I'm pretty sure I can get that down under seven minutes in the near future. I think.
