Sporting goods stores, GNC-type stores, some grocery stores, health food places, online....

It's not cheap--about $40-50 for a box of 20 packets, but totally legit. Very filling too. You can whip one up in the blender, with milk and/or fruit, which would kill me but some people like it.

If you're geographically lucky, some GNC stores have a carry-out counter, you can just order one to go. Boom took me to one the day after we met....how could I not love a man who gets me take-out MetRx?

    Help sought --

I'm a youngen (of sorts) and I often work until very late at night, and seem to come home hungry. I've got a roommate so I can't make a lot of noise, and seem to end up eating dessert-like foods given their taste and don't require noise (The rest of the day I eat pretty well).

Any list of foods/snacks I can eat late, late night after work that are filling (us youngens have large stomachs) and require no noise in preparation??

Also, I do ab exercises at the gym, but can't seem to acquire the ol' six-pack, or at least shave off this tiny amount of baby fat around the gut (see above for likely explanation of this ;D
    Help??

If you can find a discount Vitamin shop you should be able to buy the MetRX about 20-30% cheaper. GNC gouges people.

    Couple of things ...

freakfish ... yeah, I wish there was another place in my town to go to other than GNC. Stuff is way to pricey there.

Mark ... eat something at night that isn't filled with refined sugar, and eat just enough to take the edge off without gorging. I am vehemently against the whole lo-carb deal, but I understand where eating a lot of sugar and simple carbs right before bedtime can get you in trouble, because that stuff just sits with you. Try nuts or some whole wheat bread or something, again, enough to just take the edge off of things.

Remember, weight loss and fat loss is all about calories consumed versus calories expended. It's not about carbs. I deal with the same problem you do. My abs are strong as hell, but I have a little baby layer of fat right around the midsection that sit-ups/crunches/leg lifts won't get rid of. My problem: I like beer too much. It's a simple pleasure that I won't give up. ;D

OK, so I've intentionally avoided this thread for months and months...ignored the old version too. I thought, for most of those months, yeah, I really need to start working out, but never really did anything about it.

Last Thursday, I finally did. Don't know what was different, just decided that there had been enough talk and it was time to actually go and do something.

Fortunately, our apt. complex has a workout room with an 8-in-1 weight machine, a couple of stairmasters, a bike and that thing that you walk on that I can't remember the name of because of a total brain fart.

It's not anything great, but it's a start. I'll have to be better about eating - probably harder than deciding to go and work out - but I've finally taken that first step.

I'm trying to follow the same workout routine I used for football, 3x8 on most weight exercises, but I'll spend a little more time doing cardio stuff like the bike. I actually logged 10 mins. on there today, which ain't so bad considering how completely out of shape I am. That will most definitely increase.

So I'm off and running, at least. And I no longer feel it necessary to avoid the 38 pages of this thread.

Had a physical the other day. Everything is fine, except my LDL (good cholesterol) is a little low. The only way to raise it, my MD said, is to exercise. Anybody else get this?

To the salad eaters: If you're not a huge fan of iceberg lettuce, I found a baby spinach salad in the bagged salad aisle that comes with a package of cranberries and almonds. This is good stuff!!!

Bagged Salad....what a great name for a band or a book title.

Or when you wake up in a small village outside of San Juan, wearing one of those old Monday Night Football yellow blazers, and nurse shoes.......all you can think is, 'man, I feel like a freakin bagged salad....'

Bagged salad, whoever thought of that, I hope they are really really rich today....

If they're not, then they screwed up royally.

Already shredded (sans tomatoes) and in a lot of different varieties. I have a couple of bags going bad in the fridge as we speak. :D

Kidding ... neither will last that long in the face of my desire for a balanced diet.

word up to the baby spinach...
    eating it right now...

also, 21, good lookin out on the metrx. i saw some at the store the other day. it was expensive, but i saw some new canned ones, basically the same thing i think. it was a four-pack and since it's new i was able to get the four pack for like $4 bucks with my grocery store savings card. it's OK tasting. I think i could get used to it.

is it a good pre-workout thing? post? what do you think?

I would say no to eating pre-workout....you're going to spend the first part of your cardio workout (maybe 30 minutes) burning the glycogen you just consumed.

My guru on this--just trust me, there is no one wiser--insists on waiting an hour after a workout before eating so your insulin doesn't kick in and make your blood sugar all crazed. (In other words, even when you finish exercising, your body is still working, burning calories....if you eat right away, you interrupt that process).

I use Met-Rx as a meal replacement, or I keep one in the refrigerator and slug on it when I have a chocolate craving.
