When is the best time to weigh yourself? I guess we're all a bit lighter when we first wake up so is weighing yourself then not the most accurate time? Should I weigh myself before I go to bed? What would give me the most accurate weight (more or less)?

Weight really isn't a great indicator of health. You can be 220 pounds and healthy depending on how much muscle you have. Body Mass Index and body fat percentage are really better indicators.

It's probably best not to weigh yourself more than once a week. Morning after you've gone to the bathroom and before you eat or drink anything is as good a time as any.

If you have a regular schedule, just make sure you weigh yourself the same time every day, if you really want to keep track of your progress.

Just lay out a plan and pace yourself. Realize it's going to take a lot of training to work up to any distance (especially running), but once you start laying the building blocks, it becomes more of a reachable goal.

Big thing: Never overdo a workout and get an injury. That will set you back or probably boot you from even having a chance to finish a race.

    Hokie:
I noticed you break workouts as shoulders/triceps one day and chest/biceps another.
I've been typically doing shoulders/chest/back, biceps/triceps on alternating days, though I realize you are already working, say, biceps, on the bench press.

is there a reason why it's better to break it up as you do, or just personal preference?

Honestly, I snagged it from one of the workouts in Men's Health. I think it may have been the Rock's. Seems to work for him, and I've noticed major strength gains that way.

I don't think either way is right or wrong, probably just a preference. I think what it comes down to is that if you split chest and tris, you can do a lot more weight/reps on tris because you're not tiring them out by doing chest exercises and vice versa. I was in a bench rut for a bit, and when I split it up that way, I put up some of my heaviest numbers ever (six reps with the 105-pound dumbbells on DB bench press).

Nice work Hokie. I just put up the 110s on dumbbell bench for 6 reps last week.
I prefer doing biceps with chest, as my biceps lag behind my other bodyparts. Doing it this way hits them when they're fresh, as opposed to dong them after back when they're alreay pre-exhausted.

I think that's why I like splitting chest and tri. My tris weren't getting enough of a pump because they were dead tired after doing heavy chest work. Now, I can do a lot of heavy dips and close-grip benches to hit the tris harder.

that's about exactly what i do. My close grip bench has shot up, but more importantly for me, my biceps are actually getting some good work b.c they're fresh. They're now sore the next day, which never happened before. I have a great full-body pump every day now.

With Christmas coming up, I have a problem. On Thanksgiving, I enjoyed all the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and deserts, then got back to business the next day.
I'd like to do the same with Christmas, but the problem is that my family has a way of making Christmas into a three-day holiday. My brother is having a get-together on Christmas Eve. My parents are having their usual dinner on the 25th, then we're having that post-Christmas, pre-New Years party that we always have on the 26th. Should I just pick one day to enjoy myself or spend all three days eating whatever I want or try to stick to something like my normal eating plan for all three days?

I'd just eat whatever you want....just eat less of it. Drink lots of water (it will make you feel fuller) and extra helpings of the good stuff (vegetables, protein, fruit, etc). Exercise during the day. You'll be fine.
