Oz talks about his disdain for vegetables...I'm in the same boat. I HATE that shit. Hate it. I know it's good for me, but I hate it.

What can veggie haters do to get some good garbage in our systems?

BTW, three weeks and counting without sugary cola, just some Sierra Mist now and again, and I've had one Milky Way bar, and that was during a late-night drive home when I was working on about three hours sleep. So whoohoo.

I do not like them in a box.
I do not like them with a fox.
I do not like them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere!

Fun with fonts, a whole new universe.

BYH, amigo, either eat 'em or don't, but they are what they are. Is there SOME WAY you can tolerate them?

    In an omelet?
    Grilled or steamed?
Just not buttered, oiled, or creamed!

Adam, no friggin way. I cannot accept this argument.

Running is no more strenuous than some serious Precor or arc trainer with the resistance jacked up. I think there's this belief that somehow running is the way to happiness. This is not a universal truth. It's a partial truth at best. I'm doing real well and I hate running. It destroys my body. So I don't run -- unless it's part of a sport I'm playing.

To the non-marathon, older-than-20 people: If you're out there and you're doing things to get that heart rate up and you feel good, don't worry about running. Just do what you do and get your swerve on.

Separate post for a separate idea...

Anybody have a feeling one way or the other for Hammer Strength equipment? Good? Bad? Seems pretty sweet to me. Is it?

Hammer Strength is good, probably my favorite brand of machines

If you ever want to do some good bodyweight workouts try this product:
    http://www.fitdeck.com/fit/index.htm

I've been using it for about a week now and it keeps things fun and interesting.
You can use it for years and never do the same workout twice. And you can do as easy or as hard a workout as you like.

Pas ... I use the Hammer Strength for some stuff. I really like the leg equipment, and the iso bench press and iso shoulder press are good too. Don't use it for everything, but I definitely use it.

I have to disagree with you on that one, swimming hits more muscles than running and in general 100 meters of swimming expends as much energy as 400 meters of running. The body faces more overall resistance while swimming, unless you're running against the wind and uphill.

I know somebody asked about cardio versus running sn which is better. I forgot who but here are my two pennies: (Well, they're not my two cents. They come from a buddy of mine who knows much more about this stuff than I do. I just swiped it from his website. ;D )

"Folks who lift weights do so under anaerobic power. Resistance training is the primary way we gain muscular strength and muscle mass. When you resistance train, it increases your lean body mass. Aerobic training doesn't do that.

"By increasing your lean body mass, you increase your metabolic rate, or the rate at which your body turns food into energy or waste. The higher your metabolism, the more fat you burn.

"Take two 5-foot-7-inch women who weigh 145 pounds each. One has 18 percent body fat. The other has 30 percent body fat. When these two women are at rest, the woman with 18 percent body fat (therefore more lean body mass) burns more fat than the woman who has more fat.

"...a person could hurt his chances of getting into better shape if aerobics were all he did. Strict aerobics can lead to loss of muscle mass. That in turn leads to a slowing metabolism, which leads to gaining more fat!"

    Damn, that's good.

I guess I'll try to grill the fuckers. I still hate 'em though.

I said running is the best followed closely by swimming. Why is everything I write on here hacked up and disputed? I said if you don't like running, then by all means don't do it.

If your knees hurt running, then don't run. I swim, run and bike. I don't think it's good to just do one thing. He asked about biking vs. running. I said running was better because you pump your arms more. For most people, it is easier to keep heart rate up running than swimming. I can swim 1.5 miles in 1 1/2 hrs or so. On the other hand I can go on a 10-15 mile run and take a bit longer. The heart rate is elevated a lot longer during a run.

Is it possible to read an entire post before responding? Or do you guys just read one line and go nuts?

As far as the vegetables go...I hate them too. Try to incorporate them in a little at a time. Throw some lettuce, tomato and onion slices on a sandwich. Get a little dressing on a salad. Figure it's better to get a bowl of veggies with a little creamy dressing then no vegetables at all.

That's all I got. Now the responses to this are probably going to say, "You hate vegetables, what the hell! I don't want to read the rest of what you wrote, but I'll dispute everthing you say!"

    Geez, people.

You hate vegetables? This guy has no clue.

    re: Hammer Strength
My gym doesn't have any of the official "Hammer Strength" leg stuff. It's shoulder iso, chest iso, row, hi row, biceps. I use em all. Seem pretty sweet to me. They also have a lateral raise apparatus ... but my max is like 12 ounces. It's embarrassing, so I don't use it.

Adam, chill bra, it's not like people were giving you beef ...

Beej (hi dools!) ... try sauteeing veggies in extra virgin olive oil. Just enough to coat the bottom of a pan. Cut up some peppers, onions, mushrooms, zucchini or squash, season them with salt and pepper, and others things if you like (basil, oregano, etc.). They taste amazing when they're done.

And extra virgin olive oil has a ton of heart-healthy fats.
