It is finished and I truly am not a triathlete.

Even at the mini-distance for beginners, I was dead halfway through the run. I'm just a crappy runner, hate doing it and never practice. I did well on the swim and bike though.

The event organizer -- who finished second at worlds last year -- siad her goal was to make sure everyone finished. The ambulance was never called and except for one woman who decided against slowing down on a downhill 90-degree turn, there were no wipeouts or injuries.

My daughter placed higher in he age group than I did in mine, so she gets to chose the resturaunt and movie for a special daddy-daughter date this weekend.

You are indeed a triathlete, Ides. Wear the shirt with pride.

The Cybex Arc Trainer is good, but I prefer the Precor EFX (where I do 40 minutes of the Interval Training) or the other Precor machine with the handles. I'll use the Arc Trainer or the TechnoGym Cardio Wave machine http://www.technogym.com/cardiowave/default.asp?pc=0&lng=2 if I want to change things up. I find the CardioWave really works the quads hard -- or maybe that's just the way I'm doing it. If you click on that link you need to go through their preview and then select English and then customer (or club trainer) if you want to read more about it.

What, no one has worked out in three weeks?

I got to live the Schick Quatra ad today. I'm off the hizzy, I guess. A woman in the gym next to me fell off her stationary bike while we worked out (almost) next to each other. I think it was more my BO than my good looks, though.

But I'm putting in a little extra time in the saddle because I'm on assignment to ride a 100k ride with David Zabriskie on Saturday. I'm considering using one of those testosterone scrotum patches so I can keep up with him.

Holy crap my legs are tired. Fun little ride. We actually only went 50k so the big guy cold get back to the start/finish line for some of the charity/fund-raising duties.

This dude is a funny guy. He grabbed a couple can of spray whipped cream from the breakfast break area and rode along squirting people as he passed them. Nothing like a whipped cream fight at 30 mph on two wheels with a police escort.

Funniest sight, though, was Shawn Bradley peddling along. The 7-foot-6 guy joined our little peloton for the ride on his custom made bike. It was funny watching him fly down a hill at 35-40 MPH knowing if some fool pulled out in front of him there would be no way to slow down or stop in time to avoid a massive crash. I had no idea they made spandex that big.

Ides, I'm told former Tar Heel hoop standout Serge Zwikker can be found at triathlons in the Carolinas. So there are at least two people in the market for that much spandex.

I talked with him after the ride and he explained how he got his bike. It's a custom-made job from Trek with a custom paint job. Top of the line components, all-carbon frame. He said he took up biking a few months ago after he retired because running wwas too hard on his knees, ankles and back. Cyling is a perfect non-impact sport for him. and he's a great training partner, I'd imagine, because five people can draft behind him at the same time. If he crashes, though, he'll take out a 10-wide swath in the peloton.

    :'(
I wish I could do a triathalon. That would be awesome.

I haven't run in a good two weeks due to back and hip injuries.

However, I've lost another 2.5 pounds thanks to a bunch of huge trucks coming in at work.

I've been doing pilates 3-4 times a week, and my stomach has really flattened out (well, for me). My arms are starting to get pretty buff too.

I'm really shocked that I'm doing this well, considering last week was Dr. J's b-day. I had a snickers bar, soda, hot dog, pizza, nachos and chocolate cake. The next day my body didn't know what to do with all the nasty fat and sugar in me.

Every couple of weeks I'll eat like crap -- but not to that excess. I'll have an extra helping and dessert. Maybe I'll eat a little late.

I'm closing in on the 30-pound mark. Another 2.5 pounds, and I'll be there. After that I'll need to lose another seven.

Tell Dr. J you want to be on top for a change to buy you a jetted tub.

Arc trainers are good. They'll tighten thighs quite well, help you scuplt in the calves, give you some cardio-style endurance. If you couple the arc trainer with an upper-body workout of some kind, that seems like a nice, low-impact way to get your work accomplished.
