    Good job FJ.
I got in the last 7:30 of garbage time in my rugby team's 49-0 victory today.
I went to practice on Thursday and played a little today, taking a few hits, carrying the ball a few times and even with the bad shoulder there were no problems.

My buddy did a triathlon with Serge Zwikker in N.C. and got his picture taken with him.

OK, so I signed my sorry self up for a bike race this weekend. It's a short, but half-way steep climb up one of the local canyons. http://saltlakecycling.com/showride.php?rideID=1001

Any other cyclists out there? Anyone use a magnetic indoor trainer? Like 'em? Hate 'em?

I just don't get into biking. Don't know why. I used to do a recumbent (magnetic) bike but it just makes my ass hurt. I prefer to run or use the precor or arc trainer.

btw, Idaho, I think it's really cool that you finished that tri. You > me.

    Bump again.

Just announcing a trio of goals I've set.

100-mile bike ride Feb. 24 at Zions National Park. Goal: finish the 100-mile ride before my brother finishes the 63-mile ride.

Triathlon in Mid-May. It's the one my cousin died in last year and several relatives are going to compete in it this year. Goal: Just finish.

Will register as a USCF cyclist in January. Goal: Progress from Cat 5 to Cat 3 by the end of the season and complete the Porcupine Hill Climb -- 14 miles, 4,200 feet elevation gain in less than 90 minutes.

Oh and there's this: The director and assistant director of the gym I go to just asked me to come to a day-long class and become a certified spinning instructor. I'm flattered they think I'm in good enough shape and the kind of person to teach such a class, but I know nothing about exercise physiology. I mostly just like to go, work out hard on the bike, and leave all sweaty.

I'd get paid a little to do it, but other than that I struggling to find a good reason to do it. I'm afraid of becoming the next instructor the class can;t stand because he doesn't know squat.

Passy asked to be nuked. Without going into much detail, he was having some work/sj issues.

Bummer. No need to go into details. I hadn't realized he was gone.

I loved spin class when I was taking and, with your cycling experience, you'd probably be great at it. You just have to adjust your mind to using the tension and body position to simulate hills and such.

As a side note, I've taken 2.5 inches off my waist in the last month. I've been going hard at the gym since October and I'm really getting results. But I'm not one of those to obsessively jump on a scale, so I don't know how much weight. I would guesstimate 10-15 lbs.

Ending the year with a bang.

The spinning class I go to is having a 3-hour ride on Dec. 30. You have to earn your way into it by spinning for a minimum of 10 hours during December. The studio is already filled up and all the bikes reserved but there are more people waiting to get into the ride. The gym directory decided to open up a second 3-hour ride immediately following the first 3 hours. she offered me a spot in the second class because she knows I'm getting set for a century in February.

So, I'll hop on one of the bikes at 7:30 a.m. and go until I pass 100 miles on the odometer.

Then, I hope, I'll sleep all the way to my brother's house 90 miles away where we're taking all the kids to watch a basketball game at our old college.

    Yeehaa.

Because you are all so interested ....

Just finished the 3-hour ride. Got 65 miles (according to the little monitor on the bike) in and now I feel, well, I feel like my legs are going to turn to noodles.

Still, the ride was great. First hour was work, after that, it was easy -- like being in a 25 MPH zone with occasional climbs to slow me down to 80 RPMs from the 115 RPM cadence I prefer on the flats.

Next up, 100-miler at Zions National Park in February.
