And if you workout a lot, or just workout, get enough sleep. Body (and mind) needs to recoop.

Great point, Xan. Matter of fact, I'm on a week off after a six-week program which helped me take two inches off my waist. ;)

Sleep. I wish I remembered what that was like.

Working nights, having young children and trying to find time for regular workouts (with one or more of those young kids in tow) doesn't make 8-hours of sleep possible most days.

On another note, I was reading a magazine about workouts, losing weight and how much to eat and it recommended a 200 pound man who does five hours of exercise per week consume about 3,200 calories per day.

Idaho, I like your cycling log so I'm using one as my sig. Maybe I'll catch up to you by the end of the month and we can see who logs the most indoor miles by, say, April 1.

    Bring it on, Xan. ;)

I've got a pair of 2-hour rides scheduled for Friday and Saturday. I'm not keeping that log so much to brag, but moreso to motivate myself.

I'm eagerly anticipating the time when Mother Nature allows me to hit the road more frequently. I hope to be a bout 60-40 indoor-outdoor by the time summer ends.

I was reading early posts in this thread and ran across a reference to Jim Fixx. Timely, because a few days ago my sister's neighbor dropped dead at the finish line of a marathon. The guy was 45 years old and seemingly in excellent health. My sister, who has had more than her share of grief lately, is taking it pretty hard. Obviously, so is the man's family.

Life and death are an enigma. I'm single, not in top conditioning, I have no dependents, and at 45 I'm still here. He was married, with two boys, kept in shape, worked hard at it -- and his heart gives out without warning.

I don't mean this to be a downer, but it was death that launched this thread, as I rediscovered after looking at the first few pages. Take care, all.

    Going through that, too, JD.

My training right now is geared toward a triathlon in a few months. It's the triathlon my cousin -- 35 years old, four kids, one on the way, in great physical condition -- died in during the swim.

One of my training/cycling buddies is heavy into tri and will be doing an Ironman this summer. He's an animal and that just ain't me. I'm promising myself to take it easy when I do my tri in May. I will not race into the water with the hardcore guys. Instead, I'll let them beat each other up at the start and I'll wade in a minute later and start swimming a nice, simple stroke.

Hard cardio workout this afternoon: 107 minutes of bike (14.25 miles) and sexmill on the hill mode level 17 for 60 minutes at 4.0 speed (4.25 miles). Burned 1,513 calories. Didn't have time to recover because I had to scoot to a girls hoops game that was good and strange and bad all at once.

Just got home with $60 worth of groceries, all veggies, fruits, walnuts and chicken/fish. Ate 4 celery sticks dripped in balsamic vinegar and salsa, handful of baby carrots, handful of walnuts and 15-20 shrimp dipped in cocktail sauce. That's dinner.

I'm pooped but I have to write a gamer for our Web site to keep the brass happy.

Hey, everybody. How about sharing some of your favorite healthy recipes for chicken, shrimp and different types of fish (mahi mahi, tilapia, whiting, et cetera)?

I don't have exotic recipes for fish. I just put it in the pan with lots of lemon juice and some spices and cook it for 8-10 minutes.

It would be nice to read other cooler recipes.

I don't eat fish, but here's a recipe from my Weight Watchers starter recipe book:

In small bowl, whist 2 tsp. red wine vinegar, 1 tsp extra-virgin olive oil, 1 tbsp. chopped fresh basil and 1/2 tsp finely chopped fresh thyme or tarragon. Rub mixture on both sides of 7-oz. yellowfin tuna steak. Broil tuna about 3 minutes on each side or until desired doneness. Add salt and pepper to taset. Place on a thin (1-oz.) slice of toasted French baguette. (7 points, if you're doing WW).
