Don't know if I'm considered part of the "original" night crew or not, since I joined (or more accurately re-joined) in mid-'04, but I'll say this, the people I still feel the most affinity with here are the folks from the night crew I was part of. It's the people I love the most and have the most regret as far as any bruised feelings about things I did.

Those nights. Holy shit. Especially if I was on a road trip. My God, there is no bar on Earth that would have been better.

I seriously nearly died in a hotel in Springfield, Mo. one night when IJAG, Tron and I were picking on some poor schlep from Texas all night. Some of the barbs were just unbelievably funny.

The biggest shame of all when it comes to SJ is that much of the pre-'06 posts are gone. Amazing stuff gone in the internet ether.

You're a decent person? Who got you thinking that?

My god, I'd forgotten about that.

And my feelings aren't bruised. Just my liver.

The night crew is overrated. The day crew was the shit back in the day. Fenian, Ace, Dangerously, AQB, 21 (she was on both crews)... We solved the world's problems.

The old night crew pretty much died when Khartoum stopped being a regular, and the night thing became more chitchat and less concept. And I imagine Tron holed up with a bulldog at the Antarctica Holiday Inn

I take more pride in the Antarctica thread than anything I ever wrote for a newspaper.

Maybe even better than the "ack" thread

Well, since we are reminiscing, there was a period when JDV showed up (my favorite thread ever. ... I know it got old, but RIGHT when he showed up, the first two threads) and boots was off the rails and creamora was popping on once a day with a new "twists and turns" steroids thread, and there were times I shouldn't have been anywhere near this board because I was pretty busy, but I was addicted and spending way too much time during the day. The whole period may be longer than I am remembering it, but it has all melded together for me.

That original JDV thread damn near killed me. I know it eventually annoyed the living hell out of half the people on here, but that thread had me doubled over in laughter. I still remember he came on with his first "scoops" thread, and the very next post was from BYH, I think it was, "I guarantee this will not end well. Release the hounds." And then Dyepack made friends with him. It was like performance art.

Then, boots' sexual harassment thread just brought out some of the funniest stuff ever on here. DoubleDown saw what was going to unwind immediately and the second post was a picture of a popcorn machine. Then seeing Moddy, who will give anyone and anything the benefit of the doubt, call bullshit and unload, was stunning. And for a few days I was busy googling creepy pictures of men hitting on women.

If those only threads could have begun and ended the personas, it would have been great.

Well, JDV had to bounce eventually. I wish I could have been with him and Cranberry at the All-Star Game in San Francisco.

One of my favorite popcorn moments was when Ragu got into it with Fenian Bastard and jr. Fenian starting calling Ragu Ayn Rand.

Ragu's post length that evening must have been the equivalent of The Fountainhead.
