Trace Adkins printdust is right. No one in the whole history of history has ever suffered the kind of systematic oppression brought down today on the heads of middle-class straight white American Christian males.

    Teachers should not teach opinions.

Do you think Derek Jeter has an opinion on gay marriage? Do you think he is dumb enough to post it on his facebook wall?

In my profession I cannot write letters to the editor. Well, I can, but I know I will have consequences if I do. A teacher follows the same rules.

So what? State and local governments still must abide by the First Amendment.

Pretty sure your local paper doesn't want to publish your thoughts on how Rasheed Mendenhall was unfairly criticized for his comments on Obama been Lodden.

    I disagree with your opinion.

How about teachers shouldn't teach hatred?

I have had kids ask me where I go to church. I don't tell them where, and I don't even tell them if I do or I do not go to a church - that would be giving approval to attending or not attending.

You just explain that the topic they asked was something to be duscussed between the student and the parents.

I wonder what religion this teacher belongs to, though.

It obviously isn't Christianity, which is built on God's grace, forgiveness of sins and inclusion of everyone, particularly those that are looked down upon by society.

Christianity is built on God's grace, forgiveness of sins and acceptance of all as imperfect children of God who have the opportunity to receive that forgiveness.

But if there is unrepentant sin -- and many Christians believe homosexual behavior is sin just as much as hetero sex outside of marriage is, and can cite both Old and New Testament passages to support it -- then that is an issue. A Christian believes that all have sinned and have the opportunity for forgiveness. But unrepentant sin -- in other words, committing a sinful act and not seeking forgiveness for it (and continuing to commit it) is seen as a problem. If one sees homosexual behavior as sin, and the practitioners of it as being unrepentant, then that's the issue. The problem is not with "gays" as people. It's with their actions, and the fact that they are being told they have to support sin or risk being labeled as hateful/have special-interest groups target their employers so they'll lose their jobs (as happened to many of those who financially supported Prop 8 in California), et al. Or, in this man's case, lose his job over a personal conviction that is based on a religious belief that most of the nation has (and by voicing an opinion that is on the same side of his state's law, which does not allow gay marriage).

As noted earlier, many Christians also see marriage as something that is created by God and intended for man and woman to procreate and raise families -- and that it's their duty to have children and raise families. Any deviation from that is seen as a perversion of an institution created by God.

    That's an after-market add-on.
