So you're no longer allowed to live in San Francisco if you're not gay?

I'm not sure about the city ordinances there.

In many parts of the southeast, religious virtue is open discrimination against Catholics, gays and immigrants.

I'm curious what people think of this story:

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/01/20/BA151BKA16.DTL&type=printable

Basically, old dude has served on board of City owned theater for 30 years. It comes out that he donated to the Prop. 8 campaign.

Now he's seen as unfit to sit on board.

    I think that's intolerance.

Agree or disagree with the issue, but the way people want to demonize anyone who disagrees with them is what bugs me -- and I'm not even against gay marriage.

But the people who are against it have the entire history of human existence on their side. Yes, opinions are changing, but to act like anyone who hasn't come around to your way of thinking, in the time frame you've approved of, is a Neanderthal, is wrong.

How does what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedroom personally affect you, Zag?

Or Timmy in New England...which plays in a state where gay marriage is legal (despite Sen.-elect Brown's best efforts) and his owner is a (gulp) Demmycrat.

    Freedom of association, YF.

The brief states that the nomination wouldn't have been approved by the council, so Dellums is saving the old guy some face by not submitting it. Majority rules (except in the U.S. Senate, of course). A majority of the SF council has apparently decided they no longer want to associate with Mr. Hoopes.

As we were constantly reminded during the Clear Channel/Dixie Chicks controversy: There's freedom of expression, but actions have consequences.

I don't think that the Pats are looking for a new QB, but the Bills are and we're pretty tolerant up here. ;D

It doesn't, and I've never said that it did.

I guess the Dixie Chicks comparison is a pretty good one.

I didn't have much sympathy for them.

And I guess it makes me a hypocrite, but I still don't like the idea of trying to ostracize anyone who disagrees with you politically. I also don't think it's a good political strategy in the long run.

They're not trying to convince the people who disagree with them to change their minds. Their not trying to find common ground. They're trying to demonize, and that's going to just raise the stakes and result in a greater push back.

There's nothing wrong with not wanting those people around you or your children.
