I bet there are lots of things you tell people they can't do, too. Because you've decided that those things are morally unacceptable for various reasons. That's what societies do.

Like what? What would go around telling people they shouldn't be doing, provided they have a legal right to do it? Do you go around telling people what you think they should be doing morally? I bet people just love that.

The idea is that they don't want it to be legal, either.

  4. Again, they don't think it should be any more legal than walking up and stabbing someone to death on the street should be. You can't convince them that it should be a choice until you convince them that the fetus is not alive.

    Good luck with that.

If nobody at NOW is upset Pam Tebow made the choice she did, why do they give a rat's ass that she and her son explain it on a TV commercial? They've told the story enough times in the past, and thanks to the recent publicity, it's been out there a few thousand more times. A 30-second spot is going to make any difference now?

Just read the first two graphs of this wire story:

"A national coalition of women's groups called on CBS on Monday to scrap its plan to broadcast an ad during the Super Bowl featuring college football star Tim Tebow and his mother, which critics say is likely to convey an anti-abortion message."

The critics are full of crap. When the story has been told by the Tebow family, it's always been the message about what can happen if someone doesn't get an abortion. They're not telling people they can't get one. If some of you people took the time to actually read Tebow's quotes over the years, he tells people how he lives his life -- not how he thinks they should live theirs.

"An ad that uses sports to divide rather than to unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year -- an event designed to bring Americans together," said Jemhu Greene, president of the New York-based Women's Media Center.

Oh, really? So it "unites" only if it's in agreement with NOW? It "divides" if it's a different viewpoint.

I understand they don't think it should be legal. But it is legal, regardless of what they think. I was just wondering about your comment though that suggested that some other poster told people what they could or couldn't do based on his/her morals? So I wonder what other "morality-based" thing, which, like abortion is legal, you'd feel comfortable telling people they could or couldn't do?

I was implying that he advocates outlawing acts he finds to be unacceptably immoral. "Telling them what to do" through the law.

But of course, you are implying that telling people what they can and can't do, regardless of legality, is something I shouldn't do. Even though I can.

At least, Rick, you admit the commercial is a blatant political statement, unlike some here who think Tebow is just using a political group's expensive commercial time to say, "Gee, I'm glad Mom had me!"

For the record, I'm pro-choice. I'm just also pro-logic. A lot of people try to paint anti-abortion advocacy as illogical. It's perfectly logical, but it's starting with a false assumption.

No, for one NOW isn't nor has it ever spent millions for a pro-choice Super Bowl ad, so it hasn't been an issue for either side before.

And while I don't personally have a problem with the Tebows telling their personal story about how if Pam Tebow had an abortion, the world would be without a Gators QB, the Tebows have actually weighed in on the abortion issue alot more than just telling their "story." The fact the Tebows are aligning themselves with a radical gay-bashing, woman-hating organization like Focus on the Family tells me even more about them than the story anyway.

Last time I checked, weighing in on an issue is within your rights.
PS: Being against gay marriage does not equal gay-bashing. And being pro-life doesn't equal woman-hating.
