That proposes major problems because MSU is almost a bigger rivalry than UM. Especially the last 10 years. Then we also lose ND/NAVY or Army. So I don't know how well that would work.

And what the hell have any of those players done. This just proves that Weiss blows as a talent developer. David Grimes the WR from Michigan was supposed to be lights-out. In fact, he was supposed to go to MSU - backed out at the last minute.

The problem with the anecdote on Pryor is that Weis still pulled Dayne Crist, the No. 2 QB in the country, from USC and other schools out West. This was the year after he got Clausen from California.

Recruiting quarterbacks is not his problem. Like a few have said, the problem is the toughness on the offensive line and the failure to develop and use the talent they have brought in.

ND won't join a conference in football until/unless they no longer are able to get their own national network television contract. Given the following the program has (even if that following was driven by things that happened decades ago), that's not likely to happen anytime soon.

Even when Notre Dame sucks, it's a story.

  7. What does any of that have to do with Notre Dame, 2008?

Not sure really because I have not compared the ND numbers.

Just thought it was interesting view of what succesful programs look like.

I could be wrong but quick study seems like those schools are getting more 4 and 5 stars .

  9. OK, OK. I was just confused. Because Weis' guys haven't reached draft age yet.

Here are the numbers I could put together for ND:
I also compared them to OSU, OK and USC.
    NFL Picks
01 6 - tied with OSU for tops (Davie's recruits)
    02 6 - Second behind OSU (Davie's Recruits)
    03 7 - First (Davie's recruits)
    04 5 - Second behind OSU (Davie's)
    05 2 - Last (Davie's)
    06 3 - Last - (Davie/Willingham)
    07 7 - Second behind OSU (Willingham)
08 4 - Tied with OK for second behind USC (Willingham)

    4/5 Stars (rivals)

    02 12 (Davie/Willingham) - last
03 7 (Willingham) - tied for last with OSU
    04 2 (Willingham) - 08 5th years - last
    05 2 (Willingham/Weis) - 08 Seniors - last
    06 12 (Weis) - 08 Juniors - third ahead of only OSU
    07 13 (Weis) - 08 Sophomores - second behind USC
    08 19 (Weis) - 08 Freshmen - first

I am not sure how the NY Times choose its All-Americans, but in the recent past, the only All-Americans I can recall at ND were Samarjza in 05/06 and Shane Walton in 02

  11. That chart debunks the whole, "Notre Dame recruits are automatically overrated!" meme.

Look at that from 2003-2005. Did they suddenly decide to no longer overrate them?

And those classes have played exactly like the garbage they looked like coming out of high school.

Another ND myth, nicely debunked by my friend with the nuggets.

Let's all say it together now: Recruiting is not Weis' problem. Coaching is.
