  1. Syracuse for sure. Nebraska without a doubt. Pitt with Walt Harris, too.

Problem is, Davie never went 8-4---he had a couple of 9-3's and the rest wasn't pretty.

His ego (or anything else, for that matter) isn't small enough for him to go back to Foxborough.

Slocum, an A&M mistake? Are you kidding? He had a hell of a run before running out of steam at the end.

Sure Slocum struggled against Oklahoma and Texas (a big deal at TAM admittedly) - but he also went 34-22 in conference. The point was that alums often don't appreciate where they are. TAM was fairly consistently in the top-half of the Big 12.
The problem is fans would rather hope for the chance things might get better under someone else than KNOW they'll always be a couple rungs from where they want to be.

No. No. Pitt made the RIGHT call with firing Wlat. Where they screwed up was hiring an 80's relic as head coach when both Bo Pelini and Tom Bradley inquired about the job. Shit, Pelini INTERVIEWED for the job and wasn't even a finalist. Tell me Pitt's not the USC of the Big East right now if they hire Tom Bradley? Until this year they weren't even the Pitt of the Big East.

    No.

While he's built a great program at USF on all of the talent in the peninsula overlooked by the Big 3, his teams lately have shown a complete lack of discipline.
His star is seriously on the wane. Not as bad as his cross-state opposite number, George "Resume Builder" O'Leary. Tommy Tuberville is living proof: you must strike while the iron is hot. Fail to do so at your peril.

And why again was it that Arkansas didn't need Houston Nutt anymore? Why again was it that Southern Miss gave Jeff Bower the boot? Why again was it that Notre Dame didn't need Bob Davie anymore? Why again was it that Nebraska didn't need Bob Solich? I guess 8-4 is just not good enough. 3 or 4 wins is an improvement. A new coach brings more EXCITEMENT

    Boy howdy.

I was stunned they didn't spring for Paul Johnson and bring back the option game (which never should've left).

To be blunt, his coaching this year has been awful. As BYM pointed out, horrible discipline, complete inability to adjust gameplans, and I'd add that Matt Grothe is regressing as a quarterback, and he wants out of there. Seriously, he's going to petition the NFL as to where he'd get drafted having thrown 44 TDs and 40 Ints in his USF career.

Not a chance in hell anyone comes asking about Leavitt after this season, let alone ND.

Did not realize that. Thanks for the info.

In suggesting Leavitt, my thinking was ND would want a coach who could build (or in ND's case, rebuild) a program.
