    With the Nuggets reaching .500 following their win tonight, the stage is set for a great game Thursday between themselves and LAL in Denver.

    Jesus won't be in the lineup - at least at the time of this posting He won't be - but Luke Walton and Lamar Odom (gamely returning with a torn labrum) should be.

    The game will almost certainly mark the 3rd time in the last 6 Lakers games (Phoenix and Philly being the others) when Kobe Bryant is showered with boos every time he touches the ball. Fans still upset over the events which took place in nearby Eagle in 2003 will no doubt make themselves audibly known.

    The Lakers are currently in a 12 losses in 15 games slump, and the Nuggets are eager to position themselves to overtake LA for the 6th spot in the Western Conference playoff seedings. Handing the Lakers their 7th consecutive setback would greatly abet their cause.

    Such a defeat, I believe, would make this the second consecutive game in which the Lakers achieved an unwanted milestone. A loss would mark the first time in 9-time NBA Champion Phil Jackson's long and illustrious coaching career that a team he oversaw dropped 7 straight contests.

    In addition to wanting to spare Jackson that ignominy, LA will be eager to erase the bitter aftertaste of the Los Angeles franchise-record 36-point home loss to the Mavs, a shellacking suffered before a national audience this past Sunday night. In the wake of that defeat, many have questioned the Lakers' heart, character and team composition. The sight of some Lakers players laughing as they were booed off of their own court didn't help in these appraisals.

    Ought to make for some good viewing.

    * * *

    Meanwhile, Shaq and Co. just won their 7th straight, prevailing tonight against the Jazz. O'Neal led a balanced Miami scoring attack, as the Heat overcame a 17-point defecit to procure the victory.

    Miami's schedule is pretty soft the next few weeks. That being the case, the Heat have a legitimate shot to vault into the 4th or 3rd seed in the East.

    So, while there doesn't seem to be any impending appearances from Jesus, Lazarus has been spotted on South Beach.

    Just like he was with approximately 6:30 to go in Game 3 of the NBA Finals last year.

    * * *

    Shaq has demonstrably raised his and his team's game over the last several weeks, a particularly noteworthy achievement given the absence of leading scorer Dwyane Wade.

    O'Neal seems poised to lead his squad on another deep playoff run. As he has done throughout his career - especially during this, his NBA 'winter' - Shaq saves himself throughout the grueling regular season and turns it on for the postseason-positioning stretch run and for the playoffs themselves.

    While some have scoffed at such tactics, 5 NBA Finals appearances and 4 NBA Championships, predictably, carry the argument.

    The Big Aristotle and his teammates aren't feeling short of motivation, either. As this Miami Herald piece ably discusses, the Heat don't feel they're receiving their just due for winning the Championship last year:

    http://www.miamiherald.com/592/v-print/story/39865.html

    As he has done the previous two seasons, a motivated O'Neal appears primed to exact revenge against those he feel prematurely ended his tenure in LA. That list is, of course, headed by the aforementioned Bryant, followed closely by team owner Dr. Jerry Buss. Many Heat personnel and fans feel that Miami was either one Dwyane Wade rib or one Shaq toe injury from winning the title in 2005, the same year in which Kobe's Lakers finished the season 2-17 en route to missing the playoffs entirely.

    Whether Lakers fans will have as much to lament as the past two years remains to be seen.

    But from the way things are shaping up for the two franchises this go-round, the tissues probably shouldn't be kept very far away from those who gleefully engineered and/or greeted O'Neal's LA departure.

    First of all, on a board like this, it's hard to display the biggest ego possible, especially in such an epic fashion. But the brothers Villarreal have gone above and beyond all egomaniacs who have come before them, with their needlessly long and vapid posts, and even moreso with the INCREDIBLY irritating practice of constantly updating thread titles to shout about new links and video that we don't care about.

    Second of all, why in GOD'S NAME does RokSki think this is LAandMiamiSportsjournalists.com? Seriously, who gives a flying fuck this many days later?

    Thirdly, and I quote...

    Dare we say, provably so?

    From the 2.8 percent of his post content I skim before I yawn and move on, it did make me giggle to see that he thinks he schooled 21.

    That should have been my fourth point. The wholly fictional boxing records these two keep on other posters. Pa-fucking-thetic.

    Dude, WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT A MIDSEASON NBA GAME?!?!

    You're posting like the Lakers just blew a 3-0 lead in a best-of-seven. Criminy. I hope you're not a Yankees fan. I can only imagine what you posted in October 2004.

    As the fetid stench of their historic home loss to the Mavs ever-so-slowly languishes from the air, the Lakers and team leader Kobe Bryant continue preparations for tomorrow's game against the Nuggets.

    * * *

    After both missed Monday's practice, Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson returned for Tuesday's proceedings.

    The often-verbose Bryant ducked out from the Tuesday media session.

    Jackson, however, made the most of his access to the microphones. More on that in a moment.

    * * *

    More media response to the Lakers, post-historic loss to the Mavs:

    - Rick Reilly is appearing on the Dan Patrick Radio Show today to discuss his take on how Jesus could help the Lakers' rotation, contrary to Phil Jackson's musings.

    - More PJax: Fresh from his divine utterance, Jackson now goes 'grassy knoll' with his take on the league's Kobe Bryant 'witch hunt:'

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lakers14mar14,0,4530144,print.story?coll=la-home-sports

    - Contrary to Jackson's feelings, however, Steve Dilbeck of the LA Daily News comments that it's up to Kobe to make the necessary changes to his game to avoid further suspensions:

    - John Smallwood of the Philadelphia Daily News, similarly, is firmly in the 'Kobe has to take personal responsibility for his elbows/suspensions' camp:

    http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/sports/16899280.htm?template=contentModules/printstory.jsp

    - ESPN reports that an unhappy league is reviewing PJax's 'witch hunt' remarks to decide what their repsonse will be:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2797968

    - The Miami Herald's David J. Neal comments that the Heat's double-digit 4th quarter rally against the Jazz Tuesday night serves notice to the rest of the league that former Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal has his troops looking for another extended postseason run:

    http://www.miamiherald.com/594/v-print/story/41087.html

    - Courtesy of TrueHoop.com's link, Roland Lazenby of the LakerNoise blog serves up a scathing review of the current coaching job by Jackson, including unsourced remarks from 'old friends' of PJax's that insinuate, among other things, that Big Chief Triangle has 'sold out.' A must-read.

    Thursday's game against the Nuggets can't come soon enough for Kobe, Phil and the team. Though Kobe will be returning to unpleasant territory, Phil could face his first 7-game losing streak as a coach, and the team is hoping Lamar Odum can play well though returning with a torn labrum, any new news is welcome in order to distance the organization from it's most humiliating home moment in its 47-year, storied LA existence.

    I'd pay good money to Webby to not ever see RokSki or JDV's name on a post ever again.

    EDIT: I know, I know, don't click on them, etc.
