What the "staffers" remark really means is "everyone will blog and tweet for the sake of doing both."

So glad I got out while the getting was good:

"David Anesta will serve as The Tennessean's consumer experience director, a new role for our company. In this job, Anesta will direct and improve the experience and presentation of our content across all platforms, including our print products, our website, our phone and tablet apps and more."

I was basically that on Sunday afternoons: Hearing consumers vent about their bad experience with circulation while I was trying to get started on the sports section.

Anesta is a designer extraordinaire. I don't think he's going to be talking to consumers or taking their calls.

I'd say he'll be more like the Jony Ive of whatever Gannett is trying to accomplish, making the "user experience" of each of their products better.

I didn't say he'd do that. I was riffing on the say-nothingness of the job title.

The vibe in the Tennessean's newsroom was that the hammer was expected to drop sometime this week.

Folks expected it maybe Tuesday, then maybe today, but the word was maybe Thursday.

Morale is, as you can imagine, at rock bottom.

Yeah, stretch out that agonizing suspense. Doom and Gloom 101.

Yeah...not sure what's up with this paper. They've been promising big changes for years now....stringing along a couple of prospective hires for about that same length of time.

Word on the Twitterverse is that they've cut loose Predators beat writer Josh Cooper.

Josh just got married and spend much time on his vacation last summer covering the Shea Weber offer sheet saga.

Did a great job around that team.

Don't forget, though - it's all about family.

In social media, it's said that Tennessean HS writer Chip Cirillo was also among the cuts.
I imagine the Nashville Scene or somebody will grind out a list before long.

That was his mistake. When will people learn that it's the company's job to make sure the resources are there to make sure work is done, not the employees, and that if they don't have enough staff to make it so, then it's their own fault.
