    Mizzou:

Off the top of my head some are still in college...Dalton at TCU went to Cincy...gabbert, mallet and kapernick were all drafted, though I'd only be guessing which rounds.

Half of the Big Ten kids are still in school.

But I'm not impressed by Pryor being taken in the third round by Oakland. First, it is my belief he is being taken because of his athletic ability rather than his ability to be a pro QB.

Second, when was the last time Al Davis made a wise personnel move? The 1990s? :D

Last, I had the pleasure of seeing Pryor up close and personal for three full years and I know what Big Ten D-coordinators thought of him compared to what they thought of other qbs in the league.

Did they fear playing OSU? Absolutely. But they knew how to defend Pryor.

Remember, too, that OSU won Big Ten titles (and a national title) with the likes of Crag Krenzel and Todd Boeckman at QB.

i just think pryor's 'learning curve' goes way beyond learning to read defenses. i haven't seen one quality that's near nfl-ready. that's what i mean from 'learning at the nfl level.' it's not just reading defenses.

maybe i haven't watched nearly enough of him, but i've seen plenty. i can't recall a singlute pass that made me go, 'wow.'

but hey, i'm bored with this discussion already. nothing will be resolved here. but i'll tell you one thing: i'm pretty darn sure no team is giving pryor 5-7 years to prove he's a quality starting qb. yeah, most qbs will admit it took 'em that long to feel like they've figured it all out; but the great ones play a high brand of ball long before getting to that point.

if pryor hasn't isn't oakland's clearcut franchise answer by his fourth season they will have long moved on. they sure were patient with jamarcus russell, right? what is there about pryor that gives his backers confidence he's got more in his favor than russell?

In Meyer or Gus Malzahn system Prior would have been Newton or Tebow.

He went to a program that ran the wrong system for his talents.

But he can't hit an open receiver standing 15 yards away. That's not a question of system.

Actually, you're wrong about that. He could hit a receiver 15 yards away.....although it would have been a no-touch heater that would have potentially maimed the receiver. It's the floating rainbows he hoisted for anything 20+ yards away, that were his even greater issue...

Pryor was largely an afterthought on the national scene as a college QB, save for his off-the-field shit and people talking about how "talented" he could be. Too bad he rarely showed it. Apparently, the same was true in the Big Ten, where he was never an all conference selection, first or second team.

He may have been better than mediocre to some people, but he wasn't a whole lot better than mediocre.

His best moment at Ohio State was his TD catch in the Fiesta Bowl. That they brought in Boeckmann -- who sucked beyond all previously known measures of Ohio State quarterback suckiness -- to throw the ball and put Pryor out to catch it says quite a bit. That's probably what Al Davis is thinking too, if Al Davis is thinking at all.

Yeah. I can't think of another signature play of his other than the Fiesta Bowl TD catch.

Has any Ohio State quarterback ever done anything in the NFL?

    Does Tom Tupa count?

Hey, man, Craig Krenzel was a STARTER for the Bears! Take it back!

In my lifetime (starting early 60's), the two most "accomplished" at the NFL level were probably Mike Tomczak & Kent Graham (transferred fr/ ND, only started one year at tOSU). Not exactly spectacular. Schilichter had the best NFL tool set....but we all know how that turned out.

Of course, Woody wasn't exactly developing QB's with the NFL in mind, during the 60's & 70's....
