It was more a general comment than anything ... I've seen at least three pieces on ESPN labeled "The Curious Case of so-and-so," and a few on CNN and Fox News. I should just stop looking at the TV when I'm on the treadmill in the gym.

Liked it. Good for them, just going the high road with a sense of humor about the whole thing.

Agree, incidentally, with everything Kindred said.

Better question: Why publish such sentimental piffle and insult the readers' collective intelligence? Better title: Death of Competent Magazine Management.

Well, don't damn Texas Monthly as a whole for one questionble premise. It has done some stunning work.

  9. TM is a National Mag Award-winning machine.
So they gave a local legend some space to rant.
    No biggie.

    Here's a promise.
    When I'm
    Here's a promise.
When I'm old -- and it's getting closer -- I'm not writing anything about how good it was back when I was in my 20s and how all the kids these days just don't get that. If I'm working then, it's only because I need the money. Otherwise, I'll enjoy more time with my wife and getting to do all the things I've missed because of the hours this job requires.
There's no excuse for this screed.

given the vitriol here, i thought it was going to be some magnum opus, like the richman piece. it was just a column, basically, from a cranky old man. stop the presses!

a little weird to call it two columnists like that, but pretty mundane nonetheless.
