The most straightforward, non-trolling answer that can be offered is that the situations surrounding AP desks are similar to the vast majority of publications. They are overwhelmed with so much more work than before that it's a wonder more errors don't fly through the wire.

Not trying to defend them, but I've been there. While it sounds like rationalizing or being their apologist, fact is that there simply are not enough quality editing eyes to cut down the errors. Having said that, it doesn't make anyone facing deadline pressure in that situation feel much better when errors are made.

They have a very good batting average considering all the pitches they face. Just didn't know if any time is budgeted for back reads anymore.

So I guess if you didn't have a top-three pick there aren't team-specific NBA Draft stories anymore.

Apparently the move has been made to division-centric draft stories

A Bob Thomas byline on Alan Arkin's obit in our local paper was impressive, considering Bob's been dead a while.

    Alan Arkin.

Bob Thomas retired in 2010 and died in 2014 at age 92.

Tennessee Martin men's basketball coach gets an extension. The transactions left out the Martin part.

Probably thought Martin was the last name of the coach who got extended...
