All the generic, soulless, crappy tracks the Frances and Bruton subject what few fans are left ... and some idiots think doing this to Bristol is wise? Are we sure Brian France is still out of the decision making process?

Small wonder Smoke is a little salty with NASCAR. Just offer Eldora a race. Yes, that will anger one of the Frances or Bruton - or one of the Smiths running things for Bruton – but it makes infinitely more sense than trucking in clay and destroying one of the tracks and races that is still worth watching.

That was the most interesting Bristol race since Bruton’s people had the brilliant idea to introduce progressive banking and turned the track into a parade ground.

When was Stewart not salty with NASCAR?

True. But this one made sense even if he knew he had no chance politically. Instead of trucking in dirt to Bristol, they could have scheduled a race for Eldora. But good luck getting the Frances or Bruton's crew to give up a race no matter the cause and no matter what good reason is presented.

Why anyone would have tried to fix what was never broken in Bristol is something only NASCAR would be stupid enough to try. And, as usual, failed.

I didn't watch all of the race, but what I did see was about like trying to watch that Chicago Bears playoff game that got fogged in.

Once they ditched the side-by-side restarts, things got better. Still, having the Southern afternoon sun on it didn’t help and wouldn’t have helped Sunday.

The spring races at Bristol and Richmond always seemed to be the most likely to get rained out. Spring Richmond on Saturday night was always a good bet to get bumped to Sunday afternoon.

I found this online while seeking out something else. I don't remember this.

I remember that Earnhardt PR stunt, such a great idea. When I worked at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway I'd have loved to have pulled off something similar, except a) we could never get a star driver for those advance media days and b) we'd have had to hand out cash along with tickets to entice fans to attend a Brickyard 400.

I don’t even have to click it.

Milwaukee 2007, Aric Almirola starts the car with Denny Hamlin in California, Aric on the pole and leading, Gibbs team says they’re going to leave Almirola in the car, suddenly they swap drivers and stick Denny in the car because either Gibbs or Rockwell Automation figures if they’re gonna win they want their guy Denny in victory lane instead of some nobody. They lose at least a lap under yellow making the change, Denny gets the car to victory lane, Aric gets credit for the win but none of the celebrations. He had already left the track and was rightfully pissed; he finished the season in DEI’s 01 Cup Series car after DEI bought Ginn Racing.

Almirola qualified on Busch Series race poles twice that season, both time as a stand-in for Hamlin.

And NASCAR forbid NASCAR.com from writing anything negative about the driver switch, which was the point when our managing editor told NASCAR we were no longer staying for Busch races on Saturdays and just posting the AP lede.

I understand, I guess, the need for having some star power to make the "Busch" races, uh, "interesting." And I know Earnhardt and Mark Martin ran them a lot.

But I used to just hate seeing Kyle Busch win every Truck and "Busch" race. It never, ever felt fair.

I don't know what the solution is, but maybe after winning X-plus races, you shouldn't be eligible anymore. What's the point?

Yep. And Bruton sure doesn't mind taking away races either. #northwilkesboro
