Speaking of, um, horsepower ... was at Pomona one year for the NHRA finals when Kenny Bernstein was honored (for one of his many retirements) and the Bud Clydesdales were there. Absolutely breathtaking animals to see up close.

Gary Scelzi once told me that's what he originally wanted to do until he realized how many pilots were referred to as "the late" so and so. He decided NHRA was safer.

Just found out I'm getting a ride to the Twins/Duals/Duels tomorrow from the other side of the state, so seeing a NASCAR event in-person for the first time since 2012. Won't have credentials but if you're there covering it, I can probably figure out how to meet outside the infield media center.

Is anyone rooting for Kyle to finally win on Sunday?

I'm going to a birthday party in a memory care facility. I think you'll have the more enjoyable evening ...

Kyle Busch can go 0 for the next 462 and I'd be extremely happy. I've warmed up to Kurt in recent years. It seems like he's finally got his meds straightened out.

Logano threw that block way too late. Fucked around and found out.

    1. Best seat I've had at Daytona for a long time.
    2. Everybody, particularly in the first Dual, was extremely careful with their cars.
    3. Fords were extremely good in drafting. Chevy needs to up its game.
    4. Michael McDowell is pretty damn good at Daytona.
    5. I laughed out loud at Denny Hamlin's brain fart.
    6. Joey Logano violated the cardinal rule of drafting: "Thou shalt not block or suffer the consequences."
    7. It was way chillier than the forecast. I wore long pants and had the jacket on before the Trucks quit practicing, and was glad I overdressed.
    8. There were no more than 20,000 there, maybe even 15,000.

By the looks of that photo, no more than 20 people were in the stands that early.
