How come I couldn’t get Mathis quotes with profanity after Marianna High football and baseball games?

Guardians with the game of the season, walking it off against the Astros with two in the 14th inning after both teams scored in each of the final three innings. Cleveland tied the game in one of the innings on a throwing error on what should have been a double play, but didn't score in another inning where they had second and third with no one out.

Quite a game. Don’t see many go 14 these days.

Braves with a Strideresque debut from 20-year-old AJ Smith-Shawver yesterday: Zero earned runs in 5 1/3 innings in his Major League premiere.

Joey Votto -- Smart, but not enough to get the hell out of Cincinnati.

Great piece of reporting. People trained to cover sports for a living, whether print or broadcast, know exactly what to do when the plan goes off-script. That's a perfect example of expecting to write about the Rays game and coming up with a piece quoting everybody but the victim.

It's Election Night every damn night on the sports desk, and that's why we shine when "breaking news" is actually breaking news. Toy department, my ass. I'd rather have a staff of people who have survived high school football Friday nights than a bunch of people with impressive degrees from fancy J-schools who have no clue how to rip up the section front on deadline.

Give me Al Michaels taking over the earthquake coverage from a World Series game any day. Sure beats Don Lemon barely ad-libbing his way through a tornado that hit the CNN Center.

Joe Kelly and Tim Anderson blowing the game for the White Sox. Now even their own teammates think they are dicks.
