Chris Young would become the first former MLB player to win a ring as a GM if the Rangers close it out, right? He also won one with the Royals as a player.

Looks like Branch Rickey won as GM in 1942. Looked him up and saw he was a GM from 1913 until 1955. That's crazy.

So Young would be in good company. Really a swift rise, retired in 2017, hired by MLB in a pretty senior admin role the next year - GM three years later. Princeton grad.

The Padres are trying very hard to make teams believe, "WE DON'T HAVE TO TRADE SOTO. HONEST!"

PERFECT GAME WATCH IS ON! Gallen is through four. That play at short is the type of play a perfect game pitcher gets.

Also: Bob Watson was GM of the 1996 Yankees.

Aren't they one of the teams that had local TV problems? Something has to explain how you are so short of cash that you have to take a $50,000,000 loan in a year in which you draw 3,271,000 fans. And it's not just a huge payroll. They knew they had those obligations.

Gallen loses the perfecto with a walk, but no-hitter is intact through five.

Diamondbacks keep knocking, but they can't get 'em in.

These announcers are fine, but I do miss Vin and others who would mix in stories from baseball's past in their broadcast. I know a lot of it is the diminished access broadcasters have to players, the language barriers in many cases, but it really is a lost art. Too many baseball broadcasts sound like they have accountants and economists doing the game - angle, velocity, projection, numbers, trajectory...its boring. I know these players are just as interesting as the players of the past - many probably have great stories to share - but it really doesn't come through on the broadcasts anymore.
