How in the world did THAT come out of his mouth?

When saying MLK’s name. I slow down. Its 9 syllables. Five words.

Nine syllables. Five words. I just slow down as if I’m driving on Lombard Street. As I copy edit the shows, I make sure MLK is always under video or graphics so that I’ll never be on-camera and I can use my own specific pattern to say it. Nine syllables. Five words. A very specific hand movement with my left hand that I have used hundreds of times on live TV to ensure I say it with the proper consistency of a McDonald’s quarter pounder.

I’ve seen people who are respected journalists (especially the guy in St. Louis) get fired over the MLK slip. Maybe the STL guy hopes Kuiper keeps his job. If he does, STL guy may have a good case for wrong termination from years ago. A great case.

This business will, eventually, fire me and never bring me back for 100 different reasons. It won’t be for this.

Kuiper needs to never come back.
