The first three are decent. I like the through the face mask shot. The other is a decent action shot with too much depth of field. The portrait is nice, but more dramatic lighting and less depth of field would focus the attention more on the faces.

I look at the last four photos and just wonder, "So?"

I guess, if there were a compelling story behind the subjects of the photos, they are publishable. But, without that, I can't afford the space. I've got to many whiny writers who want their dang words in the paper.

Only 2 of those photos ran. I'm just posting for fun unless I put one up and ask for serious critique. I do like the girl one though. Waitress walked into a tuft of light; didn't do much Photoshop to it.

    Thanks for the insights.

At a triathlon this morning. I tried here to convey speed of downhill mountain bikers. Not the best lighting so I had to really tinker with the dials, but I kind of like how it came out.

I'm not sure I'm worthy of posting in this thread, but...

    Critiques requested.

Couple rugby shots. A great sport to shoot, IMO.

I fell into the Elora Gorge getting this shot!

Don't know why, but I've always liked this shot.

The two non-sports shots above were taken on those routine, hated assignments (A walk for ALS and a poetry reading at the local library) at the weekly I worked at after j-school.

This is not my hometown paper or one that I even work for, but I noticed it once, and it has some of the best photography I have ever seen in a paper. The bad thing is, unless it is on this guy's blog, I cannot share it.

I am posting this link because it is not for the faint of heart. Great pic, though.

I think this is the best injury photo I have ever seen.
