I kept waiting to see what caused Derek to get what looked like blood on his shirt. He never had any on him, except at the cutaways and when they entered Ryman after having a clean shirt at the piano challenge.

I read in an interview with Derek and Claire that he had a profuse nosebleed at the finish line. They didn't say what caused it... maybe the dizzying bridge height?

Finally watched the last leg tonight. Happy and sad - happy for a terrific final leg; sad that another season is over. That leg was a really nice tribute to Nashville.

I'm surprised my team, Emily and Molly, finished second, especially with how bad Emily's knee was. I wonder just how bad the injury was - hopefully she saw a doctor as soon as she got home.

I'm also surprised that Tim and Rex weren't there - I thought at least Rex lived in the Nashville area, if memory serves.

Already looking forward to next season.

And, Wenders, thank you for again running the pool.

I suffer from profuse nosebleeds fairly often, and use nasal spray routinely as part of my efforts to ward them off. I just get them, and have learned how to deal with/end them when they occur (there is always, always a root, intra-nose cause for them that you will usually actually see/recognize at some point in the course of stopping it: something that has burst, or that has coagulated into a leaking, dripping lump). Although there may have been a specific reason for Derek's that we didn't see or hear about, nosebleeds can occur easily, without much cause, for those prone to them. Dry weather, winds, high air pressure can cause them; dry/irritated nasal membranes/lining, sinus issues, raised blood pressure, a cold, your attempts to cure your cold (Nyquil is a no-go for me -- it has caused a nosebleed almost every time I've taken it) -- can all bring on nosebleeds.

It would be interesting to know when/how Derek's occurred.

I know they have medics that travel with the crew, so I'm sure Emily was getting seen and treated between legs to make sure the injury wasn't really serious.

And yes, fairly sure Season 35 is already in production, so we'll see y'all next season!

@Wenders thanks so much. What a fun ride.

Finally watched the finale today. I promised my daughter we'd watch it together, and while it was really tough to wait, she's home from college in NYC for a few weeks, and it was fucking worth it to enjoy it with her.

    Good news, bad news:

The good news: Season 35 of The Amazing Race starts Wednesday, and episodes will be 90 minutes.

The bad news: It starts at 9:30 p.m. Eastern - about the time I'm going to bed because I get up at 5:30 a.m. for work. Looks like I'll be watching online on Thursday evenings.

Still, it's so cool that it's back, and the good news outweighs the bad news!

Previews are at The Amazing Race on CBS

I'll run the pool again! It's so odd with the season actually premiering with the fall lineup. (also don't get me started on how it's already late September)

If you're in, let me know by Tuesday night and I'll draw the pool then.
