    Are they laying off people because of pageview counts? Or are they not laying off people?

    Without naming which writers, I know two where their contracts were up and were simply not renewed. It wasn't a layoff.

    Reading this made me think of Rick Reilly. Wrote for The Athletic in summer 2018 but hasn't been there since. I wonder what kind of numbers his stuff drew.

    This has been covered earlier in this thread, but since it's 144 pages long, you're forgiven.

    Very few writers are on contracts. Virtually all are regular employees (and at-will ones at that) like you or me.
