Is Reddy a sock puppet for Greg Bedard?

DK has one. In fact, Bedard’s site rips off the design of DK’s site (I’m sure it’s some Word Press template).

Much better design than the Athletic. Need a magnifying glass to see art and copy

To be fair, Bedard licenses tech from DK, if I recall correctly.

I haven't actually accessed it on a laptop, but design of The Athletic app is much better than, say, ESPN. The ESPN app has being able to watch games going for it.

For reading stories, maybe. But as I've complained here before it's terrible when it comes to scores, stats, etc. And if it's even more cumbersome--if not impossible(?)--to get such information about teams you don't follow.

Unless Greg's got some investors ready to open their checkbooks, reckon BSJ would need to double or triple that sub total for this thing to be feasible long-term, yeah?

“Rip off” was the wrong phrase. I figured it was something like a WordPress template each bought or something along the lines of what you mentioned.

Bedard has a few disadvantages compared to DK. Bedaard wasn't coming from a local job when he started his site, he was never a columnist (although he had the most high profile print job short of a columnist in Boston), although from the area wasn't in Boston very long, and didn't have the connection with the readers that DK seems to have had.

FWIW: The Minnesota Athletic site hired 2 people to cover the Lynx. Assuming part-timers/freelance, but 4 stories per week.

His sub total as of Thurs. was 8,159. I'll guarantee you right now half or more of the Athletic sites don't have those kinds of numbers in their first eight months. Way to think so conventionally - more money spent on "name" writers means more guarantee of success. AOL Fanhouse checks in with that theory, as do ESPN city sites and Foxsports.com.

Well then they'll lose some money.
